Obama tonight: Let’s get serious
DENVER — No, the Boss won’t be in the house, rumors to the contrary. Springsteen apparently has another gig.
But Team Obama’s own Stevie Wonder will perform when Obama’s historic nomination is signed, sealed and delivered.
But it won’t be all party-down when Barack Obama stands in front of 75,000 or so at Invesco field, the first nominee to make the big speech outdoors since JFK.
Word is that Obama’s speech will be workman-like, and it’s from a pretty good source since it came this morning from Obama campaign guru David Axelrod.
“We’re not aiming not to be eloquent,” Axelrod joked when asked if Obama planned for seriousness rather than eloquence.
“I think the speech will be inspiring. I think it will be eloquent … We face many serious issues and he wants to talk directly to the American people about them … So there’s a lot of business to be done.”
Speaking of business, the Republicans surely will be sounding more of this “celebrity business” as Obama stands amid Corinthian pillars in such a gaudy venue.
“I understand that’s been a fascinaion with them,” noted Axelrod, adding that he thinks voters have other things on their minds.

Worlds biggest Toga Party!
I find it amusing that Republicans are poking fun at the style of the stage at Invesco Field in Denver. For me, it evokes the image of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. declaiming “I Have A Dream” in front of the towering Roman columns of the Lincoln Memorial. That will be the full-circle image tonight in Denver, an image of another August 28th, so many years ago, and we as a country have traveled so far. I’m sure Republicans have no issue with the soaring columns framing the immortal sculpture of Abraham Lincoln, before which Dr. King gave fresh embodiment to Mr. Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. So they should learn to accept that the temple represented is one of peace, progress and prosperity.
Yes, SVPPB, because Bush and McCain never used columns as backdrops:

Somebody should suggest to the Illinois’ junior Senator that he look at the name on his driver’s license. Pretty sure it won’t read “King, Martin L., Jr.”

Clark, it looks like a temple!
And lets not mention who designed it, Britany Spears stage designers!
Poor Republicans. Their candidate and party thus far has not scored many points discussing the issues, so they are now reduced to mentioning the drapery.
I do like that SVPPB and Bobz are up-to-the-minute with Karl Rove’s talking points. Those went out in the early morning and here they are. Keep at it guys, that way you will never have to worry yourself about having any “stray” thoughts of your own.
Look like a temple? Like the Lincoln Memorial?

RHarnack,
Are you STILL talking about politics?
You should first apologize to all the Vietnamese and Cambodians you left behind.
