Obama vet campaign leader to meet with Mo vets
The Missouri campaign for Democratic presumptive presidential nominee Barack Obama is bringing in his national veterans director, Phil Carter, for roundtable discussions Monday in Kansas City and Springfield, Mo. with local military veterans.
Mike Evans, an Army veteran from the St. Louis area, is among those actively involved in Obama’s campaign. The participation of Evans and others was announced a couple weeks ago.
According to the campaign’s Sunday release:
At each roundtable, approximately 30 veterans from wars ranging from World War II to the ongoing war in Iraq will discuss Senator Obama’s vow to keep the sacred trust of servicemen and women.
Among other things, the sessions are expected to emphasis Obama’s work in the Senate to improve care at Walter Reed Hospital for U.S. troops wounded in Iraq.
The effort appears aimed at countering the appeal of GOP presumptive nominee John McCain, a Vietnam War veteran who suffered through five years of captivity and mistreatment by the North Vietnamese.
McCain also has a veterans campaign arm, and has made a point of holding campaign events in Missouri and elsewhere that feature supportive military veterans.

Veterans have suffered greatly because McCain doesn’t understand them or e-mail.
