Palin on climate change: ‘Whaddya mean we caused it?”

ST. PAUL, Minn. — If you’re an environmental advocate, you might be happy to know that the vice president doesn’t get the final word.

In picking Sarah Palin for his running mate, John McCain didn’t seem to mind that he and Alaska’s governor take  starkly different approaches to key environmental matters.

Then again, in his drive to mollify conservatives, perhaps McCain sought out someone who rejects the conclusions of most of the world’s scientists.

Unlike McCain, Palin supports drilling for oil and gas in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge – one of those litmus issues as far as green politics.

Even more noteworthy, Palin and McCain depart company on climate change.

In a recent interview with the conservative website Newsmax, Palin said of global warming: “I’m not one … who would attribute it to being man-made.”

That puts her on the opposite side of the fence from McCain and politicians who accepted the conclusions of more than 2,000 independent scientists from around the world who, after the most exhaustive cooperative study ever,  last year attributed global warming to humans.

The report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change also asserted that time is running out as far as taking the  steps needed to prevent potentially catastrophic effects from our fast-rising oceans.

McCain has fully embraced that thinking and sponsored legislation in the Senate aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions through a cap-and-trade system. Barack Obama takes a similar approach.

McCain pushed for inclusion of language in the GOP 2008 Platform that says: “The same human activity that has brought freedom and opportunity to billions has also increased the amount of carbon in the atmosphere.”

Maybe he’ll say to Palin in Minnesota: “We gotta talk.”

I think picking Palin was some kind of a prank.
He’ll surely come out with his real choice in a couple of days.

Bill -
All you have to do is go to the National Weather Service Web site yourself and click on the climate data for St. Louis (or anywhere, for that matter). Some years have been very warm, others cold, others wet, others dry. In the 70s during various cold snaps, the big news was the coming of the next Ice Age. Now, Global Warming. To say that most of the world’s scientists agree on man-made global warming is false. Last winter, I got tired of having to put blocks in my trunk for traction for the many snow and ice storms we had. I’m not convinced that our world has warmed that drastically from the 70s, and what will the consensus be if we enter in a cooling period? Kudos to Palin. Most Americans are ready to drill, and if it’s in ANWR, the place is a desert. A line of pipes isn’t going to affect too much, except maybe how the meese screw each other. By the way, moose are so stupid, they can’t even get out of the way of a train coming right at them. Palin eats moose burgers. Cheers!

Tim Hogan -
I went to Saint Louis University, and I can guarantee you that article is the opinion of one editor, not the University, and certainly not the Catholic church. I tell you what, take yourself down to Father Kavanaugh SJ’s office and ask him if abortion, namely Obama’s position on the Born Alive Infants Protection Act, is ethical. And, you may want to watch this video, which will open your eyes a little. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIdbYjmbFzo

“Jason, you might want to consider getting your information from somewhere other than scribblings on the wall of your local pub.”

Or, the church bulletin.

Oh dear! How confusing. They should talk ASAP to get their stories straight.

I can’t wait for her to share more of her views with us.

Fact: There is not any evidence of any kind that shows there is manmade global warming. None. Zilch. When grant’s go away to study gl9bal warming, so will man made global warming.

Remember the nutty professor from the University of missouri who had a blog site, here. I decimated him by just asking questions. The blog no longer exists.

Palin was right!!

For any of you “experts” tell me of one proof that we have man make global warming. You can’t; and you know it. Just try it!

Correct, it is not 100% proven that man has created global warming. (at this point, maybe 75% or so…)

But to say that there is NO SUCH THING as global warming ?? Dude, I’m pretty sure most scientists (and basically anyone else with an IQ above 80) in the world know how to read a friggin thermometer!

So, the world IS getting warmer…whether you “care to believe” it or not, guy. And if we can do something to slow or stop that warming -WHETHER YOU THINK WE “CAUSED” IT OR NOT - we should.

The effect to us and other developed nations is that we spend a portion of our vast wealth trying to reverse what is happening.

OR…we could sit back, do absolutely nothing, and what - cross our fingers that things work out OK????

Great plan.
