Steelman taking a page from Hillary’s playbook?

Earlier rumors to the contrary, so far Political Fix has gotten no word of any Republican unity event slated for today or the near future.

What is for sure, however, is an e-blast that state Treasurer Sarah Steelman sent to her supporters Thursday. It mentions not a word about U.S. Rep. Kenny Hulshof, the man who defeated her Tuesday for the GOP nod for governor.

Here’s her statement:

Dear Friends,

The best thing about campaigning is the people you get to meet along the way.  I have met so many Missourians with remarkable stories.  I have met entrepreneurs overflowing with vision and determination, farm families willing to work long hard days to provide food for the world, teachers who willingingly sacrifice extra time and their own resources for their students, moms who are taking care of their kids and balancing their lives between work at home and a career or a job they need, dads who are worried about making ends meet and providing the spiritual leadership that kids need today, and groups of people who are providing a helping hand to those in need physically and spritually without ever asking anything in return - just to name a few.

How fortunate I am to get a glimpse of this amazing state we call Missouri.  It is my privilege to thank each and every one of you for your support in this effort.  I regard campaigning and governing as a partnership between you and me and your support for me has most certainly lifted me up financially, emotionally and intellectually.  Our message of putting principle over politics and putting people first resonated throughout Missouri.  And even though we lost, we fought hard and I would do it all again because those are ideas worth fighting for - those are ideas that - for many who have gone before us - were worth dying for.

I have always believed that every one of us can make a difference if we choose to.  Every one of you has made all the difference for me and I thank you for that.  It has truly been an honor and a blessing to have this opportunity to run for Governor of the great State of Missouri and you provided me with that chance.  Please accept my heartfelt thanks for all you have done for me and for Missouri and remember what that great football coach, Vince Lombardi, said - “The spirit, the will to win, and the will to excel are the things that endure. These qualities are so much more important than the events that occur.”

Your Friend,

Sarah Steelman

Ms. Steelman: you lost because you pandered to the rural vote. It’s MissourI, not MissourAH.

I remember the so-called unity breakfast John Ashcroft staged after the bloody 1992 Republican primary for governor. Roy Blunt looked like the shaky kneed groom at an Ozarks shotgun wedding. It was not a happy affair, previewing an unhappy November outcome. Staged events do not make for unity. The media don’t buy it, anyhoo.

What a sore loser. Maybe you don’t have to sit around at a phony love-fest, but the least she could do is congratulate Hulshof on the win. From what I saw of his victory speech he was very polite to her. I actually voted for Steelman in the primary, but with this childish attitude I’m regretting that decision.

If she’s really taking a page from Hillary’s playbook, better inventory the office furniture when she leaves!

Wow. All it took for Steelman to concentrate on her own campaign and message was for her to lose. If she had done more of this during the actual campaign, she might still be in it today.

And, Oracle: you owe me a new keyboard-I just spit water all over mine laughing at your comment!

Steelman’s campaign in the primary really angered me. Not only did she trash a great man, but she played right into the Democrat’s hands. Nixon has no campaign, has done nothing as Attorney General other than further his own political career in a “what’s in it for me” agenda, and has nothing to offer other than blasting Governor Blunt for balancing a budget careening out of control. Steelman showed no class in her campaign tactics, and it will take me a long time, if ever, to forgive her trashing of a fellow Republican. I’m glad Kenny won. At least he has class!

Blindly Supporting Kenny

Other than pointing out the truth about your beloved Kenny, how do you expect Steelman to demonstrate the differences between her and her opponent?

Steelman exploited her opponents flaws.

Kenny didn’t even have the courage to address the Show-Me Institute Study on the failed Ethanol Mandate. In fact, he avoided it like the plague.

The wrong person won the Republican Primary. Nixon will be Missouri’s next Governor. –Maybe, next time, the sheeple on the right will open their eyes instead of just going along with the party.

I don’t blindly follow like sheep. Far from it. I have been involved in Missouri politics for nearly two decades. I was keenly aware of Nixon’s agenda when he was a new Rep in the Missouri House. I didn’t like his policies then and I don’t like them now. I was keenly aware of Steelman when she beat the sitting Senator in her district and spent her time in the Missouri Senate. I was there. I know what went on. I was keenly aware of Hulshof when he took the 9th Congressional District and worked with him in D.C. on issues affecting Missouri as well as the U.S. I was there when all three mentioned were working in and for the state of Missouri while some bloggers on this site were still in diapers. I hardly followed like a blind sheep simply because the Republican establishment supported Kenny Hulshof. There are those of us who have forgotten more about Missouri politics than many will ever know.
Kenny Hulshof has the moral and ethical standing along with the knowledge and experience to make Missouri grow. To return to the days of stifling business growth due to special interest regulations, overzealous lawsuits and placing stifling tax burdens on families and businesses are not issues I support.
Blindly following Kenny? Not on your life! Nothing beats us old geezers who have been around the block a time or two and know the score!
