Former Missouri Sen. Jim Talent will be in Europe this week, part of a bi-partisan panel aimed at preventing the spread of weapons of mass destruction.Jim Talent

In May, Congressional leaders appointed Talent vice-chair of the panel, which is headed by another ex-senator, Florida’s Bob Graham.

The committee — formally known as Commission on the Prevention of Weapons of Mass Destruction Proliferation and Terrorism — was created by Congress, on the recommendation of the 9/11 Commission.

On Wednesday, Talent, Graham and the other seven commissioners will meet with officials in London, followed by talks with the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna.

On Sept. 10, the commission will be back in the U.S., holding the first of two public hearings in New York.
