That’s right: Bill Haas, Democratic nominee for Congress

Are Bill Haas and Capitol Hill made to be together? Bill Haas

We’ll see, but for now, what we know is this: Haas won a crowded Democratic primary tonight, and will face incumbent Republican U.S. Rep. Todd Akin in the November general election.

This is Haas’ first victory at the ballot box since he left the School Board in 2005, and it’s not for want of trying — Haas has run for state representative, alderman and mayor in the last four years.

Haas’ victory might stir some talk about the rule that requires candidates for Congress to live in the state — but not necessarily within district boundaries.

While the Second District stretches through St. Louis, St. Charles and Lincoln Counties, Haas calls the Central West End home.

Bill, nice of you to write to your son.

Bill, Those of us who regard you as an unqualified candidate, and there are many, are still waiting for you to come up with a persuasive, logical analysis of why and how you will win in November against Mr. Aiken. I don’t think name calling and pulling statistics out of thin air are impressive arguments, especially from someone who claims to have a legal background. Speaking of your resume, just exactly where was your “20 years” of corporate law experience? Dreaming of holding political office and by extension making the voters’ dreams come true is more sad than laughable. In two weeks you have yet to make a cogent statement on this blog. Why don’t you do something positive to turn around public opinion on Bill Haas? By November the folks who voted (perhaps) will be wiser the second time around. New idea for your campaign: “let’s make this loser a winner.” Just trying to help.

since those misguided (dysfunctional would be so judgmental, and I try not to judge even when it would accurate) souls on here seem to have been captured and returned to where they escaped from, I hesitate to post again, but couldnt resist, or at least didnt.
The post by my son, and my response to him here, and private emails to him, and calls, have put us back in touch, a blessing, after having been estranged for a couple years for whatever reason.
Whether an example of god works in mysterious ways, or just serendipitous (I prefer the former), this painful blog a small price to pay for renewing my relationship with my son. We should nurture it, and we will. He’s busy and so am I, but both seem prepared to look forward rather than back.

Dear Mr. Haas:

I am happy that you discovered the silver lining in this blog. It’s too bad you continue to insult the few voters who are paying attention to the upcoming election. Personally, I thought some important questions around your campaign plan have been asked. Since you have no answers it looks like you don’t plan on winning and maybe you just want publicity. What a shame, especially for the voters in the 2nd Congressional District who actually knew the real Bill Haas and voted for and even worked hard for one of the other candidates. You have made a mockery out of our democratic system. However, your candidacy showed the flaws in our system and hopefully it’s a wake up call and in the future voters will do their homework. Our democracy will survive despite candidates like Alf Landon, Pat Paulsen, Ralph Nader and our own Bill Haas.

Bill Haas won because REPUBLICANS elected him just like the last 4 elections.

Here’s just one website where they got their voting advice for the DEMOCRATIC primary

http://countenance.wordpress.com/2008/07/27/2008-missouri-primaries-preview/

“U.S. HOUSE, 2ND DISTRICT, DEMOCRATS

Recommendation: Bill Haas
Prediction: None

Analysis: Vote Haas if you take a D ballot because that loony toon will ensure another term for Todd Akin.”

So if the 2nd District ever wants to elect ITS OWN candidate in a future Congressional primary, they must demand that the rules be changed to stop the cross-over voting.

My thanks to the last blogger regarding the Republicans voting Haas in. I’ve said that all along and I know I’m far from a political expert but it was the explanation that made the most sense. Yes, let’s claim our voting rights back….this should be an issue that doesn’t as, the R’s hope, be forgotten about.
