That’s right: Bill Haas, Democratic nominee for Congress

Are Bill Haas and Capitol Hill made to be together? Bill Haas

We’ll see, but for now, what we know is this: Haas won a crowded Democratic primary tonight, and will face incumbent Republican U.S. Rep. Todd Akin in the November general election.

This is Haas’ first victory at the ballot box since he left the School Board in 2005, and it’s not for want of trying — Haas has run for state representative, alderman and mayor in the last four years.

Haas’ victory might stir some talk about the rule that requires candidates for Congress to live in the state — but not necessarily within district boundaries.

While the Second District stretches through St. Louis, St. Charles and Lincoln Counties, Haas calls the Central West End home.

In reply to Ms/Mr ChrisR -
Where does Mr. Chris Sander live? He is the successful Republican candidate for the 3rd District’s seat currently held by Rep. Carnahan.

Can you say ” Ellisville ” ?

At least Mr. Haas lives a heck of a lot closer to the 2nd than Mr. Sander lives to the 3rd…
Ellisville is quite a ways from SoCo, the City or JeffCo, I believe…

Pot calling the kettle black, eh?

How is the Central West End in the city close to St. Charles, Lincoln County or West St. Louis County, EH?

Goodness gracious, toto, you guys are tough. Fortunately, I am, too, and glad my feelings arent sensitive at all. That’s what I get for saying I’m not inclined to post, again. Someone let the dogs out.
Ok, not enough time to set all the record straight, but perhaps a couple things.
First, greeters work very hard and should be respected; but I wasnt one, as one of the posters indicated; I was a manager, customer service to be exact.
And as for the person who said I thought Nader won, you might go back and read what I wrote several more times, or have someone read and explain it to you perhaps.
Next, for the person who thought I would guarantee Akin ”his second term”, you must be young and not around very long. 5th, of course, tho 4 will be enough, thank you.
And it’s a mazda, and it does have bumper stickers, Haas ones, vegetarian ones, dont eat veal one, adopt spay and neuter one, and a pro faith pro family one, and of course the Haas For Congress magnetic signs. 215,000 miles and, like me, doing ok. My other car is a new Cobalt, also with campaign bumper stickers and magnetic signs; Dad got if for me as birthday present right before he passed. It’s very special to me, of course, and based on the primary, Dad is making a great guardian angel, too. When his feelings were hurt I kept the Mazda, too, he said, ”you’re the only single person I know who’s a two-car family”. He was 86, he had a good life, we had a good relationship. We told each other I love you, often. Have you told your parents lately you love them?
Animals. 2 cats, not counting Furby the outdoor one, and my running partner Sweetie the Rott/Cattledog. I do have 17 cats and two dogs in heaven from over the last 27 years. Mummy is the mother of the two I still have. Lost her to a car May 18th; her first and, it would appear, last time in the street. She seems to have gone quickly, a blessing. She liked to be on the porch. She sometimes followed me on the sidewalk when I walked the dog. Few things in life I’d do differently if had to do over (might be surprising considering some of the things I’ve done), but I should have kept her inside when walking the dog. I was wrong; should have been smarter. She seems to have been following me and Sweetie the dog that night. Finding her was the saddest moment of my life; I guess that means I’ve had a good life. The house is still in shock, tho recovering. The first night I slept in the usual bed; kept reaching over for her, as she slept by my head. That’s the last night I slept in that bed. Moved beds. I’ll give it a year. Her two kids havent seemed right since either. They dont wrestle with each other anymore. One sits by the door waiting for Mummy to come back. I keep telling her Mummy’s not coming back. What a dope. Actually, Mummy’s urn is by the door where she used to sit waiting for me so she could go out on the porch. Her picture is on my website. She had three legs, the result of something that happened at the puppy mill she was rescued from with her kids. She survived a fire at my old apartment; missing for three days; she’s ran away twice over night; even on three legs, she could outrun me. I guess her 9 lives were up. You love them all the same, but some are special. She was my girl. And she seems to be making a fine guardian angel, too, doesnt she? We’ll see what she can do with the general election. It may seem just my imagination, but primary night was the first night since I lost her that her kids were playing with each other. Mummy visiting in the room maybe?
As for the slashes, this website or my computer put them there; I didnt type them; they are distracting; never happened before; dont know what’s up with that; must be all the outpouring of kindness, compassion and understanding on this blog. We’ll see if they add to this post.
I didnt put 500 signs out the week before the election. The first 100 went up right before presidential primary day in February. Smart? No one else had signs out. If I do say so, I ran a smart race. And funded it mostly myself, too, like Delear, except mine was only $15,000, but much of my savings. If I was going to win another election, now was the time. You either want to win it or you dont. the next 150 signs between february and august; the last 250 I saved for the polls and I and the union CWA, where I’m a member now, put them out. God’s plan to get me out of Walmart so I could join ATT and the union and have them adopt my campaign a little before the primary, and big time now that I’ve won? You never know.
And as for leaving Walmart, it was sort of mutual. We’ve agreed not to talk about the specifics, but let me put it this way: I think I complained one too many times about a policy/practice I thought was wrong and they said they thought I’d be happier somewhere else, and darned if they werent right. They must have meant congress; I know I did.
And as for those who think I wont do well in the election or the media wont cover it, I’ve done ok so far; the media seems to think it’s interesting so far. I’m colorful sometimes, or at least have been in the past. The media seems interested; that will be helpful.
Two people didnt sleep well tuesday night, me (I) and Todd Akin if you know what I mean, and I think you do.
Finally, those are the only things you got wrong, except all the other things about me of course.
I like to think this blog not representative of much; certainly not of the primary, and I dont believe will be of the general.
Tho after I win it, the same whiners on here will continue and not be deterred.
So how would you explain this blog? That my vulnerability and humanness scare people because it reminds them of themselves and their own fragility, fears and vulnerabilities.
Well, at least we seem to have all the crazies in one place; not that I mean that in the bad or disrespectful sense. :)

I think my browser/computer puts / before ‘ in contractions for some reason. Ok, learned my lesson; no more contractions? some sort of interaction between my computer and this site? techies, the answer please?

One last point, if I may, and not direspect intended, but werent these mensa jamokes (a Baretta term) saying the same things about my chances when I filed for the primary? here’s hoping their handicapping skills stay true to form.

Well thank goodness we have Dr Doolittle running for Congress. I would like to see a breakdown of the results, be it by county, township, precinct, etc. It would be interesting to see what areas voted for whom. If anyone knows of a website, please list it here. It is also interesting how the reporting turned out. I checked various websites Tuesday to monitor the results and it was back and forth between Pentland and Haas. I suppose it depended on what precincts reported when, but usually after several have reported, there is a clear idea of who will take it. However, Pentland led with 75% of the votes in, he had 25%/Haas 18 but somehow Haas overtook him by the time 86% was in.

Last thought, hopefully wont get read much:
Here’s the deal I seem to have been offered: Win Democratic primary for Congress strongly; and a handful of horses patoots who dont like themselves because their parents never showed them enough love will pick on me mercilessly for no apparent reason other than theyre unhappy with themselves and thinking being mean to others will make them feel better:
I-ll take it. Beats all the alternatives I can think of which include not winning the primary, which even then probably wouldnt have stopped their whining much.
Whether deal included winning the General too as a bonus, we’ll see.

Mr. Freds -
You are Right (as Gomer used to say - “Surprise-surprise!”).

Mr. Haas lives about 4.4 miles from the edge of the 2nd District,
whereas
Mr. Sander is a LOT closer to the edge of the 3rd: About 4.2 miles.

I guess the difference of 0.2 of a mile makes Mr. Haas a carpetbagger and Mr. Sander a - what - matbagger?
” EH? ”
I just had to borrow your droll exclamation - sorry.
