That’s right: Bill Haas, Democratic nominee for Congress

Are Bill Haas and Capitol Hill made to be together? Bill Haas

We’ll see, but for now, what we know is this: Haas won a crowded Democratic primary tonight, and will face incumbent Republican U.S. Rep. Todd Akin in the November general election.

This is Haas’ first victory at the ballot box since he left the School Board in 2005, and it’s not for want of trying — Haas has run for state representative, alderman and mayor in the last four years.

Haas’ victory might stir some talk about the rule that requires candidates for Congress to live in the state — but not necessarily within district boundaries.

While the Second District stretches through St. Louis, St. Charles and Lincoln Counties, Haas calls the Central West End home.

If you take the time to read Bill Haas’s blog, you’ll see what his priorities are….it’s all about HIM. I really don’t care if about his cats, dogs, dad or cars. I care ONLY about the best candidate to beat Todd Aiken in November. He doesn’t have a clue as to how to get that done. Clearly, folks, our electoral system or broke at best or, at worst, corrupted. People should be clamoring for an investigation as to how a notorious city nut garnered votes in large numbers in two counties relative far away from the city. If anyone also considers Bills record as a St. Louis City School Board member, all we have to do is look at the mess the City schools are in. He certainly had either very little impact as a board member or he did a terrible job. This man does not belong in Congress so let’s not do what the Republicans want and vote either Libertarian or God forbid, Republican because that’s would help Todd Aiken.

Deleted a comment by YoungDem for inappropriate language. Putting *** after a letter doesn’t cut it. Use an acceptable word. There are millions of them.

My last thoughts, I promise. First of all I believe there’s been voter fraud in St. Charles and Lincoln Counties. Second, I would admire Mr. Haas greatly if he would recognize that he cannot defeat Todd Aiken and resign his nomination and give the runner up a decent chance for removing Todd Aiken from yet another congressional term. I’m sorry that there were so few Dems and concerned citizens to take part in this debate. Apathy is does not bode well for our democracy. In fact I don’t know why I’ve wasted so much time on this entire ordeal….no wonder people don’t want to get involved in politics. Maybe it’s less an issue of apathy than a sense of powerlessness, which is what I’ve felt as I tried to move this issue forward.

Clyn, I agree Haas should withdraw/step down, thus giving the nomination to Pentland, who would have a realistic chance at defeating Akin. Please elaborate more on why you feel there was voter fraud. I do wonder how the votes changed so dramatically. Pentland was leading 25% to 18% when 75% of the precincts reported but then Haas had taken the lead when 86% reported. How did that change so drastically? Did that many people really vote for Haas? I’m from Missouri, show me!

yea, I’d be glad to win the election of my lifetime and then resign as victor; good luck with that plan.
as for breakdown, Pentland 26% in St.Louis County, me 25%; I took Lincoln county with 36% and stcharles with 34%. Have my theories why.
surprised Garman didnt run stronger in stcharles, and alittle surprised Pentland ran so strong stlouis county.
statistics on Missouri Secretary of State Elections.
I was at stlouis county board of elections when I went from 10 points up to 200 votes down; almost had a heart attack; then back up to 10% points with 84% counted; knew I had it then.
they either substituted stlouis county votes for district votes at some point, or stlouis county came in all at once.

ps election victory of a lifetime soon to be surpassed by even greater election victory of a lifetime; that,s the plan.
ps tho, have now won 3 lost 9 elections, Im 2 out of 2 in general elections, so that bodes well for this general;
my plan is to never lose another election; how many that will be remains to be seen; at this point, I,ll settle for one.

It is unbelievable that Bill Hass won, this often happens when there is crowded field and no one candidate that clearly is better known than the others. I supported Dealer. I am glad that I did. I would have made a great Representative. Akin has got to be the best Politician from the 2nd but its worst representative. I know that between Garman, DeLear, and Pentland, the combination between any two of them would defeated Bill Haas, Haas did not win because was the candidate, He won only because he was the best known. Democrats have got to unite between their nominee not because Haas is so great but because Democrats do not a “Boots” Walker like performance is time, giving Akin lifetime tenure in Congress.

I use to think Missouri should adopt a completely open primary where voters need not making any declaration as to party when voting in primary. Now I think Missouri, should adopt a system similar to one used in Kentucky whereby, party self-id closes one year before the primary.

It was not Democrats voters voting for Haas, rather it cross-cover Republicans, there a suggestion on the web prior to the primary that Akin’s supporters may crossover and vote for Haas, which may have happened.

Pentland, Garman, or Delear had the guts to take on Akin, but Bill Hass, wake me up when it over this has got to be a dream, but as dreams often do they can turn into a nightmares quickly, with this dream and that would Akins re-election.

Ok, I promised my last blog was my last but this is politics, so promises are broken all the time. I just want to remind everyone how GW Bush got into the White House….voter fraud in Florida, not enough political will to investigate, then a supreme court appointment of one vote cast by a republican appointee. My point is, someone needs to investigate the strong possibility of voter fraud. The evidence I have is only hearsay, so I will not go into the reasons why I believe this to be a distinct possibility. Personally, I do not have the political clout to make an investigation happen. Does anybody reading this have any ideas. I tried through the local party channels and was put down….curious Haas has any defenders given his personal and public history. Bill, this is not some silly game you are playing to see how many elections you can win or lose. Your personal score card is means nothing. Electing a Democrat to the 2nd Congressional District is the most important issue facing us right now…well, those of us who care, anyway. Maybe people don’t care who’s running for office. What a shame. And shame on you Bill Haas for ruining our chances for a victory in November….by the way, how does your campaign funding stack up against Aiken? Are you willing to debate him? How many doors did you knock on this campaign? How many brochures did you mail out? How many tv ads (not interviews because you did something insane again) promoted your candidacy? How many endorsements did you garner from unions, democratic townships, etc. How many people were volunteering to help your campaign? You say you are for the little people….well I hate to tell you but the little people are not supporting you. Only the apathetic, the ignorant and Republicans support you. I think these are all fair questions. To all of you reading this, is anyone interested in starting a grassroots movement to perhaps find a write-in candidate? Bill, you want to act like this nice guy, but you fail to do what any decent person would do…realize the joke’s on you, admit it and resign. You are a pawn in of a desperate Republican candidate who will do anything to stay in office for yet another term.

Hearsay, he hit up the country folks out there at different pet events and assured he would be the best for animals and women’s rights with numerous emails going out to residents.

Don’t you love Haas’ punctuation and grammar for a teacher? Commas instead of apostrophes and always “me” instead of “myself”. He is a lazy writer and indolent person all the way around!

Yes, somebody create a grassroots movement and kick this creep to the curb once and for all. With his little queer commercials and gay swimming suit website, isn’t that enough for Todd to win not to mention his mental episodes and lock-up in the crazy bin in the hospital every decade.

What do you expect when he plasters his cheap signs on all the roadways and election polls in February?

And that’s the only reason he volunteered his time at the Dems Clinton HQ.
