That’s right: Bill Haas, Democratic nominee for Congress

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Are Bill Haas and Capitol Hill made to be together? Bill Haas

We’ll see, but for now, what we know is this: Haas won a crowded Democratic primary tonight, and will face incumbent Republican U.S. Rep. Todd Akin in the November general election.

This is Haas’ first victory at the ballot box since he left the School Board in 2005, and it’s not for want of trying — Haas has run for state representative, alderman and mayor in the last four years.

Haas’ victory might stir some talk about the rule that requires candidates for Congress to live in the state — but not necessarily within district boundaries.

While the Second District stretches through St. Louis, St. Charles and Lincoln Counties, Haas calls the Central West End home.

Great idea, doubt it will work tho. I’ll try to call Carnahan’s and Clay’s office today. Other readers, will you please do the same? I can’t do this alone. Also, you are correct about the Post-Dispatch coverage of this debacle. Even Jake Wagnman’s article was amazingly brief. I’m no longer subscribing to the Post as a result of this, only got it on weekends these days anyway. None of the local candidates are returning my calls regarding this; I was told it’s “undemocratic” to overturn an election. When I pointed out the 2000 election, I was told that was why they don’t want this overturned. However, if Karl Rove would have been exposed in Texas, along with the other republican operatives/crooks, W may have been stopped from being Texas Gov and the course of the history would have been different==over 4,000 of our troops would still be alive, global warming would be addressed, we would not be facing a depression….I could go on, but you all know it would be a better world.

We are all shocked at the fact that Bill Haas is representing this district as the Dem. I supported Pentland and the contrast between the two is night and day. If there was voter fraud it has been going on for at least 2 election cycles or why would Weber and Hogan have had the nomination? Hogan received almost as many votes as Garman this cycle. All media outlets are to blame. Coverage for the 9th district was daily any mention of the 2nd was nonexistent. I don’t know if Bill’s 9,000 “voters” read the paper or listen to the news but possibly something could have gotten through their grey matter had it been out there. The lack of media attention created a lack of credibility for the Democrats to even have a chance at beating Akin which in turn created a lack of financial support for the candidates. Mailings can cost close to .50 per household and you need to send out at least 3 mailings to begin name recognition. You are correct about the Democratic Party. John Temporiti should have taken control of this mess months ago. The townships with years of democratic losses have been abandoned by all moderate dem’s and all that is left hard core progressives with a few moderates holding on for dear life. The evidence is their support of Delear. Never been elected to any public office, limited ties to the area, no formal post high school education. We will have 2 more years of Akin but if we don’t learn our lesson now the next election cycle will produce the same results: an idiot against an idiot, Akin.

Bill Haas for Congress is a kookball any way you slice it. I’m voting for an upstanding man, Thomas Knapp. If he can capture all the lost Democratic votes and the dissatisfied Republicans who won’t vote for Akin, I anticipate a solution to this dilemma that no one wants to face in the Democratic Party. Dem leaders are just as ignorant as to Bill Haas’ UNqualifications as his swayed voters who voted for him because they love animals and he spent all his time at the animal shelters in Lincoln and St. Charles counties promoting himself as a caring, normal, aggressive ready-to-be politician. What a misnomer.

Just checked previous election results on the MO Secretary of State Website. Akin squeaked a primary win by 55 votes over Gene McNary in 2000 and has held the seat since. The Dems have never had a strong opponent in any primary or general election. The closest was Ted House, who lost by 13% in 2000. Since then, Akin has won handily with little competition. This year we finally have a viable candidate in Pentland but somehow Haas gets the nomination. I just wonder if the Republicans voted for Haas, to give Akin an easier opponent. It’s a darn shame more people did not turn out to vote. Let’s hope a miracle happens in the next couple months.

Thanks ramsfan for your excellent analysis. I used to get angry when people said the Dems deserve to lose, but after this I understand. I’m also glad you, like me, are suspicious about republican crossover votes. While the root causes were low turnout and voter apathy, there’s always that Republican bag of dirty tricks. If George W./Karl Rove had been stopped in their tracks years ago in Texas, today our country would be a better place as would the entire world. So let’s do more than hope for a miracle, let’s all get active in local politics, pay attention to what’s going on in those tedious meetings and demand ethical, qualified, dedicated candidates for the Democratic party and put an end to the death grip the republicans have had on our country for the past eight years. I hope somebody is listening. By the way, we haven’t had a blog in the past couple of days from that nutcase Haas. Do you think he may have left town? We can only hope. Maybe we can all chip in the buy him a one way ticket back to Cleveland.

Hey Bill! Aren’t you reading the blogs anymore? Or have you gotten the message that you are perceved, and rightly so, as guaranteed to lose in November? To prove us wrong, and make us feel all warm and fuzzy about your November victory, why don’t you let us know your campaign strategy, tell us how many volunteers you have, and any other brilliant thoughts you have on how to soundly beat Todd Aiken! Where is your campaign headquarters so we can all stop by and pick up some more yard signs, brochures, bumper stickers, and when will you be running tv ads and on how many channels, don’t forget cable. Oh, yeah, how much money is in your war chest????? I heard Aiken has $1,000,000.

That fraidy-cat is lying low. He can’t keep posting bogus posts pretending to be people in support of him anymore and he can’t write a grammatically sound sentence or paragraph for that matter so he has refrained from doing so. I’m sure he is steaming reading these accurate, candid posts, though.

Come on Billybob in your 1985 Mazda what do you have to say for yourself in your rented apartment in the city?

Akin drives an S-Class 2007 Mercedes. Can you match that Billy?? Get off your old worn out couch you stooge and speak up and describe your perverted campaign strategy and money begging techniques.

Here’s an idea…maybe we could blog him into resigning….I wonder what the record is for number of blogs! Wouldn’t it be great to make this national news or maybe you YouTube…he LOVES publicity….let’s get enough BAD publicity to unite the Dems into finding a way to elect a VIABLE candidate!!! Maybe the Dems, being from Missouri, need to be shown how UNqualified this guy is. Come on, Show Me State, wake up!!!! Let’s make Bill Haas the UNcandidate for November, get a formidable candidate and beat Aiken at his dirty little game, because that’s what this is. comments please!

Maybe the fool has been readmitted to the State Hospital, who knows? We could walk with signs in front of his apartment in the CWE until he steps down and allows a REAL candidate compete with Akin.

At this point, we all know Akin will win unless somebody gets this buffoon to wise up and step aside.

What does Bill’s car and the quality of his place of living have anything to do with him running for congress? Its a shame to think that voters like yourselves believe the candidate with the most money is the best candidate. Look at the money Delear poured into his campaign and he barely beat John Hogan; who spent nothing.
