UPDATE: Biden fires up Democrats in Columbia
Vice Presidential candidate Joe Biden got Columbia Democrats on his feet this morning, taking jabs at “his friend” Sen. John McCain and telling the standing-room-only crowd of several hundred that providing health care for every American is a “moral obligation.”
Standing behind the now familiar blue “change” banner, Biden, Sen. Barack Obama’s running mate, suggested that it was ironic that McCain and his running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, are also talking about change.
“John must have been the last man in American politics to know this election is about change,” Biden said.
Repeating a theme that has been common since the end of the Republican convention, Biden suggested the GOP ticket wasn’t talking about important issues.
“The silence of those two speeches (at the convention) was deafening when it came to the things that matter to Americans.”
Biden got perhaps his biggest roar when talking about jobs that have been outsourced to China. He spoke specifically at length about a tax loophole that he said gives American companies an incentive to ship jobs overseas. And he pointed at the crowd, which roared and cheered when he said he and Obama want jobs to be “Made in America, sold in America, by Americans, for Americans.”
UPDATE: Chris Taylor of the Republican National Committee responded to Biden’s remarks today by suggesting that the Obama/Biden plan would raise taxes on small businesses. During his speech, Biden contended that the Democrats will seek to cut taxes to 95 percent of Americans who have a job.
Says Taylor:
“Obama and Biden’s plan for the economy involves raising taxes on small businesses and increasing taxes on the working families of Missouri, which is not the right prescription for our ailing economy. John McCain understands that negative criticisms and tax hikes will not turn this economy around. That is why John McCain continues to push for tax cuts, push for increased investments into our economy and push for real change here in America.”

I guess Joe Biden forgot to mention that the outsourcing of jobs to China was the result of a bill that Bill Clinton signed into law.
Clinton Hails Senate’s Passage of China Trade Bill
“Made in America, sold in America, by Americans, for Americans” -Talk about pandering to the Unions. Sounds like Biden is pushing an ISOLATIONIST’S agenda.
Sounds like the kind of “change” that results in Americans having nothing but “change” in their pockets.
Don’t worry; the government will take care of you.
typical Biden rhetoric
Since the post has held my earlier comment, I’ll post again from another account.

Observer -
Just because Biden is a Democrat doesn’t mean that he has to agree with the Bills set into law by a fellow party member. This election is about CHANGE coming to Washington, in that there are people like Obama and Biden who have good ideas about what to do in order to help our country.
Tax loopholes and tax breaks for outsourcing are something that should be addressed as it is a major issue and at least Biden is talking about it.
Why is the school district implicity supporting Obama/Biden by allowing this event at a public school during school hours? Are we to expect a McCain/Palin appearance in the spirit of providing equal time? It seems that this campaign event should have been held at a different location.
I cannot wait until this “red” state is “blue” this November. It will all start with Biden dismantling Palin in the upcoming debates. I am so tired of these “citizens” (observer) that follow the Republican line of fear/lies/and propaganda. Wake up! The big oil McCain/Palin ticket does not care about you. They care only about being elected. Drill to get more oil?-so it can be sold to us at $5 dollars a gallon? No thanks. The cost of the new infrastructure to extract that oil will be passed on to the consumers. What about the oil from Iraq? What about the billions in surplus resting in the Iraqi treasury? What about oil exports from Iraq? Where are they going? Who is buying them? Think people. This was a war about seizing resources. McPalin Bush doesn’t care about your safety let alone your jobs. Exporting jobs is a capitalistic move to avoid labor cost. Its all about the money!
Observer,
Actually, it wasn’t at a school, but at a local rec center. But your same issue applies. It’s a taxpayer funded facility. The city rents to all sorts of folks, Republicans and Democrats alike. Heck, even the Nazis are trying to have a march in Columbia one of these days.
A couple of years ago, it was Republican candidate for vice president Dick Cheney who was in Columbia and he spoke at a taxpayer funded facility as well, the local county fire district.
This happens all over America. As long as the taxpayer district follows the same rules for both parties (and all such groups) and charges the standard amount, then it’s considered a reasonable use of public property.
As you’re probably aware, both parties use the state Capitol grounds for such rallies frequently.

Biden voted IN FAVOR OF THE CHINA TRADE BILL.
If you want change, vote for Obama-Biden. Unfortunately, the only change you will have when they get finished will be in your pocket.
Party rhetoric is not the way to fix our problems in Washington. The first thing we need to do is teach Washington that it’s our money, not theirs, that they are spending.
Obama wants to lower taxes for the middle-class. -Sounds great doesn’t it?
Here’s the problem. The upper-class creates jobs. If they have less money, due to higher taxes, they don’t invest. Result- no new jobs.
It doesn’t stop there. Big business makes profit by a percentage. Raise taxes, they raise the selling price to compensate. They’re going to make their profit. 10% of 100 is 10. 10% of 120 is 12. Result- middle-class has more in their pocket, but it costs more to buy what they need.
Lower taxes and free trade on an open market is how we regain strength.
Tony,
Your comment should have been directed to observer2. You should know better. I never fail to get the facts. :>)
I think it is funny Biden says he and Obama want to lower taxes for the Middle Class, and yet both of them recently voted to raise taxes on anyone making $42,500 per year.
