Throughout the Democratic and Republican conventions, we’ve provided short profiles of local delegates.

Here is the final “Delegate Spotlight.” For the previous installments, click here.

Name: Monica DurrwachterMonica Durrwachter

Age: 24

Hometown: St. Peters

Political experience: Secretary, Young Republican National Federation; interned with U.S. Rep. Todd Akin, former U.S. Sen. Jim Talent

Road to convention: After attending the 2004 GOP convention in New York as an alternate, made a pitch to state party officials to get elected as an at-large delegate this year. Says her presence reflects that John McCain can rival Barack Obama’s appeal with the youth vote. “We have so many young Republicans up here that aren’t even delegates that just wanted to come up and witness this historic moment.”

Highlight so far: Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s speech accepting the vice-presidential nomination. She “hit it out of the park.”

Looking forward to: Palin’s debate with Democrat Joe Biden at Washington University on Oct. 2. “I definitely want to see that first hand.”

Good to see a rising star highlighted!

Monica has been a leader for as long as I have known her. Not only is she an icon in the YR’s but a true leader in the community.
