In Packer country, Biden gives preview of St. Louis visits

Of all the potential pitfalls in a presidential campaign, one thing Democrats never have to worry about is Joe Biden running out of things to say. Joe Biden

Sure, he may repeat a phrase or two (He’s from Scranton, Pa., you know), but the veteran lawmaker — who became a U.S. senator in his late 20s at age 30– has the gift of gab that keeps on giving.

Today, the veep nominee was in Green Bay, Wisc., where he provided a preview of what his visits to St. Louis — both tomorrow and for the Oct. 2 vice-presidential debate — might look like.

Somehow, the Delaware senator framed himself a Packer fan: The priests that taught him in grade school were from an order with ties to northeast Wisconsin.

“If the Green Bay Packers won, we got out early,” he told the crowd gathered at a local convention center. “If the Green Bay Packers lost, we got more homework. So I’m a Green Bay Packers guy from high school!”

Wonder if he’ll try to make a similar connection with the Cardinals — you know John Mabry’s from Wilmington.

Biden also fielded a question about what it will be like debating a woman, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, at the VP debate next month at Washington University.

His answer: No big deal.

“The idea that somehow, there’s a woman, ‘Oh my God, I don’t know how to deal with this,’ I think guys who think that way have never been around strong women,” Biden said.

It will be no different, Biden said, than debating one of the 16 women in the Senate, citing Maryland Sen. Barbara Mikulski and North Carolina Sen. Elizabeth Dole as examples.

I think this article is self serving and typical media campaigning for one party…of course the Republicans who have us in the mess we’re in now. God help us if we have to endure another 4-8 years of this.

“If Joe Biden is from Scranton, I’m the King of England.”

Never, ever, never, never… trust a man with hairplugs.

You have to love the level of reporting at the P-D. While it is true that he was elected when he was 29, Biden could not have become a Senator (IOW, have been sworn in) in his late 20s - there is a requirement in the US Constitution that you be at least 30 when sworn in.

Dave in Lemay:

Thanks for spotting my error — you are absolutely correct. Should have double-checked that before I wrote the post.

I’ve made the correction this post, and another one on Biden today.

Cheers…

This is a terrible article. It says nothing about how he is going to be visiting St. Louis, something people on this website would probably be very interested in.
The article is terribly biased and says nothing about real political issues that real Americans should be interested in.
The novelty of Palin has worn off and I would like to see the media get back to the business of reporting news.
