It’s sign-stealing time again

Political Fix and the Post-Dispatch news room have been flooded with reports of campaign signs being stolen this weekend.

The callers were reporting “massive numbers,” as one put it, of Obama signs snatched from yards in Olivette and University City. (Obama’s signs cost $8 apiece.)

No doubt, there have been McCain signs stolen as well.

Sign stealing always seems to be a problem near election time, especially if a contest seems close. In fact, that’s often one of the indicators.

Just to get a sense of how active this thievery is this fall, this thread is to tally any reports of widespread sign-stealing, regardless of political party.

Obviously, if anyone has any direct knowledge of who’s responsible, please call your local law-enforcement agency.

8 bucks! That’s like twice the value of a RAMS ticket.

“Just another symptom of being republican. They’re so scared Sen. Obama is going to win they think if they steal his signs it will help McCain.” -willys

….and I heard that “jim” likes to make up untrue little rumors about VP candidates. -willys

Your second statement above Im sure also could be switched above to reference your first. So somthing like this

… and I head that “willys” likes to make up untrue little rumors about republicans being scared that they would steal Obama yard signs.

I’d would like to thank you for advancing the debate backwards a few steps.

One of the oldest political tricks in the book is to cause your own signs to be stolen, then call the media about it.

Get over yourselves. Most political signs being stolen are due to nothing more than pranks by teenagers who couldn’t care less.

Those that are truly stolen by opposition supporters understand that the printing of signs is a cost of doing business.

Doesn’t make it right, but to have people flood a newsroom with phone calls sounds just a bit fishy!

My guess is that you can find the stolen signs at the local DNC headquarters with a new $8 price tag on them.

I thought in many municipalities it was against an ordinance to display campaign signs more than 10 days (?) out of an election. Maybe, just maybe, the Post Disgrace’s crack research staff, the ones who havent been laid off, could research that.

“It was against an ordinance”…Real men of genius.
How’s your 401K’s look today?

My 401K looks great today, Garrison … just for the record! Some of us learned about finance and financial trends and how to avoid losses when there are adjustments in the market.

Meanwhile, Gilleo vs. Ladue basically made all those ordinances null and void years ago. The only municipalities that still try to enforce them are merely trying to bully their citizens.

Put you signs out, I say. Proudly proclaim where you stand. I won’t disrespect anyone who feels differently than I do — unless they don’t understand why! (Garrison)

I don’t know of anyone stealing yard signs but I wish someone would steal my neighbor’s yard signs.

Every night I go walking I am greeted by a “larger than life” yard sign of Barack Obama plus a O’Bama sign where “‘” is a green cloverleaf.

I do have a Barr 08 bumpersticker I will sell.
