Joyce on “Truth Squad”: Not about prosecuting people

St. Louis Circuit Jennifer Joyce has been caught in a dust-up over her presence on a “Truth Squad” for Barack Obama. Jennifer Joyce

For the background, see Jo Mannies’ post below.

Now, here is a statement from Joyce:

As a citizen, I believe that elections should be about issues.  I also have enormous respect for our First Amendment and freedom of speech.  My sole purpose in participating in this initiative is about getting truthful information to the voters.  This has never been or never will be about prosecuting people.

Clearly there are those who are attempting to twist the purpose of this initiative for their own benefit. This attack is a great example of how the truth is distorted in campaigns and what we’re trying to stand up against.

I don’t care how Ms Joyce wants to term it or how she distorts it. Americans have the 1st Amendment right to Freedom of Speech unless it incites civil unrest. Even an untrue ad about either candidate does not meet that standard. More pointedly as an attorney she knows that.

NEVER before have candidates like Obama threatened to prosecute anyone who opposed them. Put out your own ad, but using the guise of legal action is reminescent of Nazi Germany or Russia. If Americans value the Constitution and their freedoms, they need to stop this. All nations that removed citizens’ freedom started small and built.

Look around the country, Democrats suing groups like NRA, disrupting radio broadcasts in Chicago, banning rally signs on a VA campus…where will it end. Free Americans can get information for both sides without the government playing parent, Ms. Joyce.

I’m sure this is going to backfire on them. This is intimidation at its’ worse. And to think these are elected bureaucrats. McCain-Palin 08! I am still allowed to support McCain, aren’t I?

Did anyone actually read the article?

“By the way, a quick surf of the Internet found a McCain Truth Squad in New Hampshire, formed last January, that included several public officials with prosecutorial powers, including the state attorney general.

“Obama’s national campaign manager David Plouffe said Saturday that Truth Squads simply monitor attacks and refute them.”

“Later, state communications director Debbie Mesloh issued a statement that called it “the height of absurdity” for the GOP to contend that the Obama squad planned to go to court or jail critics.”

(As an aside, please note that both sides have “Truth Squads” in numerous states, under numerous titles. McCain’s campaign has an Honest and Open Election Committee, whose Missouri members include former Sen. John Danforth and U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson, and another state McCain group monitoring any Democratic jabs at Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.)

Sounds like Jouce is back peddling big time. I find it interesting that a criminal prosecutor is so worried about “libel” which is a civil matter. Just imagine what Barack Hussein Obama would be like with the entire United States Justice Dept. at his disposal. “Welcome to the Peoples Republic of China”. These prosecutor’s and sheriffs need to be recalled!

I am so glad there is no killings, robberies, rapes or thefts in St. Louis that needs prosecution skills these days. A few years ago when I lived in St. Louis there were a lot of crime that needed to be taken care of, apparantly all of the criminals have been put in jail.

This is the most inane thing I have heard about in a long time. Anything these two prosecutors want to do in their own name is their right but when their titles, along with the other officials including “sherrifs”, are brought into the forefront it is, as others have said, the beginning of a police state. The outstate people own’t stand for it and the people of St. Louis and the other counties where this is happening should rise up and let these public officials know they are not to stand for it either.

Sounds to me like a job for the “Truth Squad!” Perhaps some “re-education” is in order? It’s time to make some arrests eh’ comrade?
