Mo Dems, echoing national theme, release anti-McCain report on his ties to lobbyists
The back and forth is intensifying between the national and state efforts for Republican John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama, with the state parties taking on a larger role.
On Sunday, for example, the Missouri Democratic Party announced that it had “released a 65-page report illustrating that after 26 years in Washington, John McCain and his cozy relationships with his lobbyist campaign advisors and fundraisers have harmed Americans and cost America jobs.”
More from the release:
“The report, prepared by the Democratic National Committee, shows that while John McCain is trying to recast himself as a reformer, just recently he named long-time Washington lobbyist William E. Timmons, Sr. as his senior advisor for a possible McCain Presidential transition team…”
“The report, entitled “No Reformer: McCain Puts Lobbyists First While Americans Struggle,” outlines what four more years under McCain’s industry-driven policy and insider politics would mean for Americans…”
The report is no doubt being released by other state Democratic parties around the country, to coordinate with Obama’s TV attack ad that also highlights McCain’s alleged lobbyist ties.
“Lobbyists are running John McCain’s campaign and influencing his harmful economic policies at the expense of Missouri families,” said state Rep. Rachel Storch, D-St. Louis, who released the report in St. Louis.
“John McCain has undermined Boeing worker right here in St. Louis by advocating that the Pentagon’s new tanker contract be awarded to a European company, which his campaign staff lobbies for. It’s time to break the stranglehold lobbyists have on Washington by getting rid of the Bush-McCain politics of the past….”
The Democrats’ release of the report, with Storch’s quotes, comes just days after state Republican Party executive director Jared Craighead — joined by a Republican National Committee spokesman — conducted a conference call asserting that Obama was tanking in Missouri and about to cut back.
Republicans also have continued to attack Obama for being too liberal, especially on social issues.
In Missouri, the back and forth reflects both sides trying to gain an advantage after the latest polls show a slight, but persistant, edge for McCain in state polls.
McCain’s allies say it means Obama can’t win, while Obama’s camp counters that its stronger ground operation will pay off. They point to Obama’s close, but unexpected win, over Hillary Clinton in the Feb. 5 primary. Polls had given her the edge.
The Obama camp sent in surrogates over the weekend, and will continue on Monday with Women for Obama National Chair Betsy Myers. She will attend a house party in west St. Louis County, which the Democrats note is GOP country.

Are the Democrats also reporting all the millions in earmarks that Obama and Biden got for his son Hunter who has conveniently unregistered himself as a lobbyist now because of how it looks. What hypocrites - some change!

Someone needs to tell the Democrats that they can’t hide behind their aides at the Post-Dispatch any longer. Thank God there now is Google and voters can find out the truth for once.

Quick weekend recap: Craighead lies, saying the Obama campaign in leaving Missouri. To support the lie, he offers only that a rural postal worker told him the campaign mailed some phones out of state. The same day it is reported here that Tony Feather, founder of the soft money outfit Progress for America (PFA) has joined the Missouri McCain attack machine to go after Obama. PFA spent millions, starting in 2001, pushing George Bush’s agenda for America, and its founder, Mr. Feather, is a good friend of Karl Rove and has known him since the mid-70s. A crowning achievement for PFA in promoting the Bush agenda was its advertising campaign designed to sell the war Bush wanted to start with Iraq by spinning what we now know as Iraqi Freedom as a necessary and appropriate response to the attacks on September 11. It was PFA and Feather’s job to make the war on Iraq seem like a logical response to Bin Laden’s and his Saudi accomplices’ attacks and to make those that resisted the idea of going after Iraq seem like isolationist peace-niks. Meanwhile, McCain and Palin just keep hiring more Washinton lobbyists to run every aspect of the campaign, up to and including transitioning to the White House. Not only are they selling 4 more years of the last 8 years, they are not even changing strategy. As W would say, “Fool me once, shame on me, fool me twice…well…you’re not going to fool me twice.”
Any bets on how long before the Post Disgrace reports on ties to lobbyists on the dem ticket? Biden’s son has already been mentioned, what dont we know?

can I bet using my projected/guaranteed (but never gonna’ happen) Obama tax cut?

Jared Craighead
…this name is going to contaminate anything the Missouri G.O.P. attempts to put together from now on. His actions this election cycle have been a gross misuse of power, and exemplify the need to rid both parties of political thuggery. American politics is supposed to be about the Voice of the People, and not the pounding of the fists of the furiously ambitious. There is no way to absolve him for the voices he personally silenced, at Township level, all he way to the State Convention, with a Gestapo call for interrogation in Jeff City thrown in for good measure.
…If Jared is connected, I will not support. Candidates that want critical thinking voters to speak for them, better be prepared for them to speak against them as well. While I don’t want someone yelling “FIRE” and starting a panic, I ALSO do not want them to quietly slip out the back, while the theater is aflame. There are quieter ways to disseminate the information.
And there ARE sins of omission.
Biden’s son isn’t just a lobbyist, he’s a $500,000 a year lobbyist. Nice try, Dems.
Watch out Dems…..
The truth has a nasty habit of eventually getting it’s head
up through all the manure…
OBTW…. has anyone questioned where Michelle was during
The Ground Zero memorial ??????
Her hubby and the McCains were there .Grrrrrrrrr
According to USA Today, Obama’s fundraising team “consists of 38 members of law firms that were paid $138 million last year to lobby the federal government…ten of these were former lobbyists” (http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/election2008/2008-04-15-obama_n.htm)
Check it out, please provide your source. Old Sarge, Michelle Obama may have been taping a Food Network program, cooking with Paula Dean (which has been advertised) or another taping of “The View”. Perhaps she was in hiding since SNL, David Letterman, and Jay Leno parodied her last week…uh..oh..nevermind..that was Palin they parodied.
Back to the lobbyists story, as you can see by the posts here, both candidates are tied to lobbyists.
I heard that McCain cannot type well because his fingers were crushed during his captivity. Way to go Obama for coming out with an ad talking about him not using email!! Lots of class, you Dems.
Logicprevails - Obama said he is “the only candidate who isn’t taking a dime from Washington lobbyists.” That USA Today article shows that he took millions of dollars from them, but it didn’t say anything about him taking a dime. You know, the round silver coin that is worth ten cents. So you see, it depends upon what the meaning of the word “is” is.
