Nixon’s son writes rap music, dad disavows lyrics

The Columbia Missourian did an interesting feature yesterday on Jay Nixon’s eldest son, 19-year-old MU student Jeremiah “Jer” Nixon, who writes and records rap music.

According to the Missourian, the music uses profanity, references violence and refers to women as “hos.” Jer Nixon is quoted as saying the music is “98 percent parody” and should not be taken seriously.

The young Nixon recorded with a group of friends who called themselves B.A.L.L.S in high school, and one track had 3,306 plays on the group’s MySpace page, according to the article.

The Missourian is produced by journalism students and as the article was being fact-checked, the article says the music began disappearing from the MySpace pages and YouTube.

Oren Shur, Nixon’s spokesman, is quoted as saying: “Jay loves his son, but certainly some of the lyrics in these rap songs show some poor judgment.”

Jer Nixon then added an apology for the “poor taste” of some of the lyrics.

Asked about the flap this morning, Zac Wright, a spokesman for the Democratic Party, said: “I think families are off-limits” in campaigns.

Well…at least he didn’t knock-up some trailer broad from Alaska with a father who hates America…

This kid is 19 years old and in college. He doesn’t necessarily need to be treated with kid gloves as Mr. Wright’s comment suggests, but his artistic expression (no matter hackneyed) is a reflection on him and not his father. The criticism belongs to him as his father wisely pointed out. If a few off-color lyrics are the extent of my child’s college indiscretions, I will certainly consider her upbringing to have been an unequivocal success. Jer, sweetie, that’s so 5 minutes ago. Now go do your homework.

There’s profanity in the movies we watch, Dick Cheney told a congressman to “go f**k himself” two years ago, we live in a culture of guns, a society at war, and there’s an illicit trade thriving on the smuggling of heroin, cigarettes, and women. “Jer” Nixon’s lyrics are a reflection of the world he lives in and he should be encouraged, if he has any talent, to continue to express himself.

Ahhh… they are going to just love this ‘down state’

I quote Public Enemy:

“Elvis was a hero to most
But he never meant sh*t to me
Straight up racist simple and plain
Motherf**k him and John Wayne.”

You can pass that on to whoever “they” be down-state.

This speaks to Jay Nixon’s ability as a parent and shows that he put his reckless political ambition ahead of teaching his children traditional Missouri values like respecting women and not referring to them in such vile terms.

This is going to go over great with the Assemblies of God crowd in Springfield and if Hulshof really wants to be governor he’ll make certain they and others who value women see the way Nixon has prepared his son to enter society.

Disgusting!!!

Take it easy there Shannon. Count to ten slowly. Now, can you please give me a good definition of “traditional Missouri values”? You sound like a time traveller from 1857. Lighten up.

Zac Wright must be from out-of-state. The Dems made families an issue the minute Roy Temple and Jean Carnahan attacked Melanie and Branch Blunt.

If Nixon raised his son to be a “gangsta rappa” then that an all the things his son says is relevant in this campaign.

If Wright has a problem with what’s coming next he should blame Temple and the Carnahan’s for making the political environment in Missouri so toxic and nasty.

Oh yeah, Shannon, Republicans really ‘value’ women. By ‘value’, do you mean take away reproductive rights, withhold equal pay, and put us back in the Stone Age with their policies? Because if so, you are spot on. Disgusting indeed.

Jay Nixon should buy his son a brand spanking new mixing table and embrace his son’s recognition of the great American tradition of freedom of speech. Let the boy pursue his own path in life.

I think we should open up the files on all families. Yours, mine, everyones! Form a special police force for the project… maybe we can outsource it to Blackwater. Expose all those skeletons hidden in our family closets. Make public the names of all the rotten eggs in our baskets. That’s the only way we can purge ourselves of the evil elements within our society and in our families. Force the witches to confess, see if they float, burn them at the stakes! This way to the showers, ladies and gentlemen…

Rap is all that, and it sounds like Jer Nixon is into the movement. His choice, but since we’re not electing him governor, who cares.

This speaks to Jay Nixon’s ability as a parent and shows that he put his reckless political ambition ahead of teaching his children traditional Missouri values like respecting women and not referring to them in such vile terms.

Oh, Shannon, grow a pair. When would an Aseembly of God cult member ever vote for a Democrat? When would anyone who would be offended because Jay Nixon’s kid is pretty much a normal kid ever vote for a Democrat?

When would anyone who runs around talking about “family values” at the drop of a hat ever vote for anything that isn’t based on God, Guns, and Anti-Abortion?

Jay’s probably shaking in his shoes because you’re not going to vote for him. Personally, I consider your opinion to be an endorsement _to_ vote for Jay Nixon.

But I already am, anyway.

And I hate rap music.

We’ve got Mizzou feetball scholars doing drugs, assaulting women, getting stupid drunk, being arrested and exonerated for many years– and you people are going after Jer because he’s in college, plays music and writes rap music to be a rebel? Oh Lordy… don’t pick on him cause he does white rap…listened to any bonafide Nashville country lately? It uses profanity, condones violence, treats some women like hookers…and it’s just as cacophanic as rap…Geez, Ol’ Hank wrote about getting drunk, Cash about killing people and prison…summed up by David Allan Coe: “I was drunk the day my mom got out of prison, and I went to pick her up in the rain/ but before I could get to the station in my pickup truck/she got runned over by the damned old train…”

And I bet an awful lot of ‘outstaters’ listen to it with glee off the jukebox at the bar. This is the worst rap they can pin on old Jay?

Non-issue to everyone. Period. Who cares what Jay’s college aged son does. He’s his own person and didn’t pick his parents. Jer, good luck with college and pledgeship. If it were me, I’d cut the rap b/s out, but if it’s your passion, pursue it.

Hey Shannon,

Take a chill pill. How two-faced can you Repo’s be? We were all told to not mess with the children of candidates, OK i agree but then you start this BS. Guess you forgot about Palin’s daughter get pregnant. Ok, not everyones business but then Palin parades her around like a monkey on stage. SO much for your family values Shannon, why aren’t calling Palin out “for putting her political career before being a parent.” So now its ok to get pregnant before you are married, I thought you Christain Repo’s were against that? WOW now I am confused. Sounds kind two-faced huh Shannon. Like my father used to tell us “people in glass houses shouldn’t throw rocks”

Really, Mr. Wright and the MO Democratic Party??? Since when did families become off-limits in campaigns? One of you should tell Sarah Palin and her family.

The two-faced,hypocritical people posting on here is amazing. Defend the Nixon kid, but attack the Palin’s kids. Nice.

For the record, I don’t care what the stupid things the kid does as long as he’s legal. Last I checked, being stupid isn’t illegal. Garrison would be serving a life term if it were.

Has Sara Palin disavowed her daughter’s swigging Captain Morgan from the jug?

Dear Delusional Amazedbythelunacy:

Please point to any comments that both defend the actions of Jr. AND poke fun at Boozin Bristol.

There aren’t any, hence your delusion.

This is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard. This does not show that Jay Nixon is a bad parent. It show that his son as an artist does what artist do. Jay Nixon and his family are great people, and he is a great father.

As part of this rap group, I was raised a republican by a republican who ran as a republican. We as a group were joking and none of the things said were serious. We made it as a joke and thought that the music was funny. For us to act like “ho” is not an everyday vocabulary word of todays youth is ridiculous. I guess we all have horrible parents. Get control of yourselves. If Jer would have got a girl pregnant (like Palins daughter) I would understand. I guess this makes Palin a horrible parent. Your kids make deciscions outside of you.

The conservative out look that most of you show must come from Bill O’rielly. Times are changing the way people talk is changing. Dont look down on Jay because is son uses todays vocabulary in a song. It is rap and Jer is a normal kid. His dad just so happens to be running for gov.

Ok guys, Jar is one of my good friends and i ran cross country with him for our four years in high school. He is 19 and does need to be treated as an adult. Though i agree with this, he is still in college and needs to have fun. If this is his fun then just let him have it. As for his dad, this should have no impact on his dad’s election. Jar is not his dad.
