No big names on “Missouri Republicans for Obama”
Former Iowa congressman Jim Leach — who has emerged as Barack Obama’s most prominent Republican supporter — will be in Missouri tomorrow touting other GOPers who have crossed over to support the Democratic nominee.
But if you’re looking for a roster of recognizable partisans, you won’t find it on “Missouri Republicans for Obama.”
The big local names, such as they are, include Joe Passanise , the former candidate for St. Louis County and current MoDot critic, and Frontenac alderman John Levis.
Leach will appear Thursday morning at the State Capitol rotunda with Auditor Susan Montee, a vocal Obama supporter, and Matthew Ousley, a store manager from Jefferson City who, the campaign release notes, has been a “Republican since the age of 18.” (The campaign statement fails to mention he is only 26.)
Later, Leach will make stops in Springfield and Lee’s Summit.

You got to pinch me - this is too good - only the best and brightest for Obama.
Between his two runs for County Exec as a Republican, Passanise once paid a visit to a Green Party meeting. Cynthia McKinney probably can’t win without his support.
Joe Passanise is an egotistical political gadfly. He has NO street-cred with any GOP constituency.
Because I am young I am not a Republican? It is us younger adults that need the change. I understand that some people see me as a ship jumper, I would rather you view it as a Missourian who wants change. I do NOT want four more years. Our country can not handle four more years of these policies. Am I taking a hit on some of my Republican values? Yes, but in order to create a positive environment for growth; we need to come together behind one candidate. John McCain has NO idea what my needs are. He knows what those over 45 and 50 want. So me and my friends and fellow Missourians will be left in the dark like they have for the last eight years. If there was a Republican running that had the ideas and the ability to inspire us like that of Barack Obama, they would get my vote. There isn’t a candidate that can inspire us to do better, to work harder to get the job done. So what I am 26?
Mr. Ousley, you have a lot to learn. If you want to be understood, that’s what your mother is for.
If you want fame, hard work beats taudry tactics.
If you want a savior…
Choosing the leader of the free World ought to be based more on actions than moving speeches. One of the all-time most charismatic “nobodys” was named Adolph. Learn from history my friend and be cautious. Be very cautious.
I’ve been a Republican since I was old enough to pass out lit at the polls (about 30 years ago) and I’ve never heard of any of these people except Passanise, and he couldn’t even keep a website up since January this year(check the link above). These folks are Republican the same way that folks who call into the “Republican Line” on CSPAN to bash McCain following any speech are.
Hey on the bright side, they could all ride to the rally together in a mini-compact hybrid and SAVE THE WORLD!
