Obama’s new Spanish ad features, irks Limbaugh

First, Barack Obama campaigned in Rush Limbaugh’s southeast Missouri hometown.

Now, he’s going right after the Cape Girardeau-born radio host — in Español, no less.

Obama is taking aim at the conservative icon in a new Spanish-language ad that seeks to tie his purported views on immigration with Republican presidential nominee John McCain.

“They want us to forget the insults we’ve put up with, the intolerance,” an announcer says in Spanish, according to the Washington Post, which translated the ad and reports it’s running in Colorado, New Mexico and Nevada.

While the announcer speaks, two quotes attributed to Limbaugh flash on the screen:  “Mexicans are stupid and unqualified” and “Shut your mouth or get out.”

On Wednesday, Limbaugh himself e-mailed the Politico news site, complaining the ad takes his words out of context.

The “stupid and unqualified” remark, Limbaugh says, was only part of the reply he gave to a caller, over a decade ago, worried about American jobs losses caused by the NAFTA trade pact.

The full answer, Limbaugh says: “If we are going to start rewarding no skills and stupid people–I’m serious, let the unskilled jobs, let the kinds of jobs that take absolutely no knowledge whatsoever to do–let stupid and unskilled Mexicans do that work.”

As for the “shut your mouth” comment,  Limbaugh says, it was from a 2006 parody — the “Limbaugh Laws” — of Mexican immigration statutes.

From a transcript posted by the Politico:

You don’t have the right to protest. You’re allowed no demonstrations, no foreign flag waving, no political organizing, no bad-mouthing our President or his policies. You’re a foreigner: shut your mouth or get out! And if you come here illegally, you’re going to jail. You think the Limbaugh Laws are harsh? Well, every one of the laws I just mentioned are actual laws of Mexico today! That’s how the Mexican government handles immigrants to their country. Yet Mexicans come here illegally and protest in our streets!

Rush must have been on Oxycontin when he said this. He must have been at the height of his own personal war on drugs, don’t you think? This is some sick stuff he’s spouted about Mexicans. The point of Obama’s ad: IF YOU ARE NOT A RACIST, IF THE ONE THING YOU CANNOT TOLERATE IS THE INTOLERANCE OF THE RIGHT-WING, GIVE US YOUR VOTE.

Couldn’t be clearer, or more effective. Just because many Mexican-Americans are Catholic does not mean we will believe the lies of a party that tries to USE our pro-life stance to steal votes from the party that believes all humans, even those who are already BORN, have dignity and a right to life, liberty and happiness.

I thought Obama was running against McCain. All he whines about is Bush and Palin, and now Rush. I guess going to elite schools doesn’t make you smart.

JoeCool you are right, going to elite schools do not make you smart, just ask W and Yale.

Rush takes quotes out of content everyday. It is time that he gets pay back. Now he is just begining to know what it feels like.

Why is Rush complaining he didn’t want McCain as President during the primaries.

Goneape, you can ask the President, but the proof is in the pudding since he beat your best and “brightest” two times. Besides no one touted his schooling unlike the current empty suit put up by the DEMs.

Since you’ve now decided to nominate someone who has such huge gaps in their past, no successful experience of any kind, you should wonder how smart is the Dem party?

Exactly, ape. You just made my point. Obama is just four more years of what we already have.

Rush Limbaugh almost completely lost his hearing and hopefully it was a warning that the same thing could happen to his voice. But, NO! Rush did not allow that to scare him into change one tiny smidget. Is this not the perfect example of a FOOL!

Poor miserable Rush, when will he learn to stop being such a divisive mean spirited foe.

Who here is surprised that The Chosen One has chosen to lie?

It is all he is, it is all he has.

The price of Rush Limbaugh’s stock just jumped. What could be better for a conservative talk show host than to have the Democratic nominee use him in an attack ad? He may feign protest, but he is loving every minute of it.

And by the way, Limbaugh is absolutely right in this case. Yes, there are some highly educated and intelligent Mexican-Americans … I know one who owns a big engineering firm, and another who is a corporate executive in another state. But the vast majority are working as agricultural day laborers, roofers, and other such jobs. They have no education, and many don’t even speak English. Maybe stupid is an unkind way of saying it, but it isn’t unfair to call them unskilled and uneducated.

Briank, Technically, Tweedle Dum didn’t win the first election. He lost the popular vote. It was the archaic Elecoral College that got him in. The majority of the voting public didn’t vote for him.
