Open Comment Time!
It’s a beautiful Sunday afternoon, with baseball and football on the tube and in the stadiums.
And with those with politics on their minds, it’s also time for the Open Comment Line here at Political Fix.
There’s been a ton of spirited debate recently, as evidenced by our hot traffic on Saturday’s posts.
So I expect that many of you have topics, persons or events to discuss — or that you want us to cover.
All that is fine to bring up.
BUT remember the rules: Civility reigns. No cursing, no profanity or obscene language. (I’ve had to take down numerous posts this weekend that violated the rules. Let’s keep it clean.)
No libelous personal attacks.
Be concise. And please keep your comments focused on regional or local matters. Use the same perspective when discussing national issues. (There are plenty of national blogs around.)
Batter up, and play ball!

I can see a connection between Republican policies lining the pockets of fat cats on wall street, including investment bankers, who turn around and finance corportions like ENRON, BLACKWATER and HALLIBURTON and others. If it’s not a direct relationship to the wars that have cost us so much, and the fact that we need to borrow from China to prop up the dollar to keep the costs of the war manageable…
In other words, the relationship between Wall St. and Washington and the Pentagon and the corrupt contractors is a symbiotic relationship. To put it in simpler terms- they scratch each other’s backs, making windfall profits because of higher oil prices the war caused at the same time, and waiting for an election year to donate to their republican buddies who will maintain the status quo. All the problems being debated by McCain and Obama are major problems caused by Bush and the Republican Neo-cons. To vote for McCain is to vote to prolong the problems and suffering of all of us.
At the very least, it shows a lack of judgement in buying up worthless assets on the part of investment bankers. A lack of judgement in how, when, where, and why we go to war. And a lack of judgement in what the right direction is for America. And in the case of John McCain, a lack of judgement on his choice for Vice President. These are the biggest problems we face: financial crisis, war, edonomic disaster. Common threads within the republican machine: lack of judgement, lack of foresight, lack of wisdom.
We have a conservative white man running for President and a conservative white woman running for Vice-President on the same ticket. I don’t know how in the world anyone could dream up a better ticket, Karl Rove must have had something to do with it.
Richard - What BobZ just said. And in case you’re too lazy to click on the link: Left-wing activist groups like Acorn, race baiters like Jesse Jackson, and their Democratic pals in the Congress, pressured banks into making subprime loans. To be sure, the higher interest rates were also an inducement. But ironically, although activists criticize the higher rates, the current crisis proves that the rates were in fact too low for the risk incurred. Bottom line deal, though, is that if there were no subprime loans, there would be no subprime crisis. Thanks, Acorn!
If you vote “YES” on this WALL STREET BAIL OUT
we will VOTE YOU OUT!
I am politically active, and would be happy to talk with you, or arrange for you to talk with a group of us, about the real causes for the Economic situation we now face. I’m sure that you know, that the DERIVATIVES BUBBLE is the next plane on the tarmac, awaiting clearance from the tower. There is a better way, and if you do not promote it, then YOU are IN THE WAY!

CALL YOUR SENATORS! CALL YOUR CONGRESSMEN!
“IF YOU VOTE YES, I’LL VOTE YOU OUT!”

This problem has it’s roots in our FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM, and the practice called FRACTIONAL RESERVE BANKING.
Basically, “they” can print money based on nothing, and then the banks CAN LEND TEN TIMES WHAT THEY “SAY” THEY HOLD.
The real problem is INFLATION, brought on by the tons of money ALREADY PRINTED THIS YEAR. Printing more is like drilling a bigger hole in the bottom of the boat.
WE NEED TO CONSERVE OIL…AND WE NEED TO START BY SLOWING THE OIL USED TO RUN THE PRESSES AT THE FEDERAL RESERVE!
Nicky…”pressured banks”…That’s hillarious.
“This home is made for you…I can see you sitting on the front porch drinking lemon-aid. Sign here…..I can’t stand the pressure!”
You’re a complete fool…..Hey, what if Al Gore was finishing his second term and we spent $2 trillion in Iraq without capturing Bin Laden, we increased the national debt by 170%, and we socialized the banking industry and bailed out the tycoons on Wall-Street…. as we head for the worst depression since 1929?…
Better yet, we bailed out the labor unions while the labor boses were making $3 million a month….?
What song would you be singing?……You make the rest of us sick!
By the way….Subprime mortgages increased 15,000% during the first six years of Bush….You know, the Republican controlled years. From 2% of all mortgages to 30%…
How’s your 401K look today? Maybe your grandson can land that good paying job at Wal-Mart next year…..
Whoa Nellie! High energy combat today.
Whatever one’s opinion of ACORN (mine is that it contributed to the crisis, along with other factors, including high stakes greed) the ACORN earmark should not have been in the emergency bailout bill. As I understand it, it was written as a 20% return to ACORN and other likeminded groups, or (0.2)(700 Billion) = 140 Billion. Was this put in by Rep Barney Frank or Sen Chris Dodd or at the behest of Sen Obama? I believe we oughta know who put it in, and they should stand up for the largest earmark in US history, just for the record. It stands as a record of some sort, in an infamous way.

Just keep repeating the lies, over and over and over.
Show your stuff - give us some links
The McCain campaign has so far ruined Palin. These interviews show what Palin should sound like if they would just let her go.
