Page lashes out at Kinder for pay bumps
If you haven’t already, be sure to check out the story today from our Jeff City scribe Tony Messenger about Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder’s practice of giving temporary pay increases to employees when a colleague takes leave to do political work.
Kinder’s Nov. 4 opponent, Sam Page, sure read the piece, and issued a scathing statement this morning.
The Republican lacks a “moral/ethical gene in his DNA,” Page said.
“I have spent enough time in the Missouri House of Representatives to know that Kinder is not a typical Republican. Many Republicans in the House are ashamed of Kinder,” Page said. “I look forward to the day when the Republicans tear the reins of their Party from the hands of this small and miserable faction.”

Sam Page is 16 points behind Peter Kinder in the polls. Page was crushed in his last debate and is teed up to be crushed again this week. How long can Page hang in there when he keeps losing ground to Kinder? Page is taking events that are both legal and a matter of public record and crying out to anyone who will listen. Page is correct in saying that Kinder is not a typical Republican. Kinder appeals to both parties because he has a record of working hard for all Missourians.
Another day, another non-issue. If 3 people are doing the job of 5, they SHOULD get a temporary raise.
Page may be a physician, but his statement that Kinder lacks “moral/ethical gene in his DNA” is embarrassing and stupid. This clown is going down in flames.
Let’s call a spade a spade. Kinder lacks ethical accountability, from his porno chief of staff to his over paying of employees. When will it end? It’s time for a changing of the guard! Sam Page has earned my respect and should be the next Lt. Governor of Missouri.
Nick said: “If 3 people are doing the job of 5, they SHOULD get a temporary raise.”
I couldn’t agree more. However, this seems to only apply to those at the top. Ask people in Social Services and Mental Health if they are getting paid more now that they have had cutbacks and hiring freezes. The answer is that they get the COLA 3% each year.
It went something like this;
Kinder: I need you to help with my campaign, can you volunteer 2 months without pay?
Subordinate: No, not in this Bush economy.
Kinder: I’ll double your salary for the two months prior.
Subordinate: I’m glad to be part of the team.
Kissoff: I’m sure you believe corporations should do the same right? Abbot, McGraw-Hill and Chrysler employees will be happy to hear that since their companies have cut thousands of positions in the area.
In a related story, Sam Page also charges that Peter KInder once butted in line in front of Page back in elementary school, and has now requested a formal investigation. Unfortunately for Sam Page, the statute of limitations has already ran out.
No one save some in the PD’s limited circulation area have EVER heard of Sam Page. Flail another month or so and fade to total obscurity. But at least youll be a statistic in the Blue Book.
If no one has heard of Sam Page then when did I see signs for him all along highway 50 on the way to Jeff City this morning? The fact is, this is Kinder’s to lose, but the longer this goes on the better Page’s chances get. The more things like this get out the more people will realize Kinder is part of the same corrupt Republican culture that has ruined that party and turned many independents into Democrats. Sam has an uphill battle, but I am rooting for him!
Well, I have news for sam who…
I am known to many here for my staunch support of Margaret Donnelly in the Democratic primary for attorney general. I drove hundreds of miles and hauled dozens of signs and made scores of phone calls, because I know Margaret to be a great person. But Margaret officially finished second in the AG primary and I have made my peace with it. I took several weeks off from politics to rest and tend my gardens. Now I am back and energized and supporting the Democratic ticket this fall. I live in central Missouri between Columbia and Fulton, and I have not only met Dr. Sam Page, I have visited with him and I like him. What’s more, I am going to campaign for him, and I am going to campaign hard. This story today about Peter Kinder’s staff perfidy takes the cake. Peter Kinder gave an undeserved huge raise to a staff member who later pleaded guilty to sick charges related to child porn. Enough said. Watch out, whose sam and Peter - you have motivated an old woman and I have the fire once again. I am coming after you with all the support I can muster for Sam Page, and we won’t fall short.
If Kinder’s actions are not flat-out illegal, they still stink! If his poor staff of 3 was “busting their butts” to do the work of 5, why did they actually work fewer hours those weeks?? That makes absolutely no sense. This is cronyism at its absolute worst. For all of Kinder’s talk about accountability, we can now clearly see what he’s all about. It’s good to be his friend, but he’s no friend of Missouri.
Peter Kinder just keep doing what you’re doing! Keep walking the walk keep talking the talk, and you’re definitely going to be voted out of office. It’s almost gotten comical each week I look at the news and see what a mess you’ve gotten yourself into just by being you. You are not worthy of being our states Lt. Governor. You incite division within your own party, and continue to bring politics into the gutter. Please vote for Sam Page as we need a desperate breath of fresh air and ideas.
Moindependant said Kinder and butted in….in the same sentence. Now that is funny!
If 3 people can do the work of 5 even on a temporary basis, why are we paying 5 to do the work of 3? Seems more government waste from the tax cut and spend conservatives. Hire 5 people to do the work of 3.
Didn’t Pete Kinder publicly criticize fellow Republican, Speaker Rod Jetton, a couple of months ago for working as a political consultant? As I remember, even though the Ethics Commission said that what Jetton was doing was legal, Kinder cannibalized him and called him unethical. Now we find out that even though the Office of Administration told Kinder that bonuses were not allowed under state law, he decided that he could skirt the law by calling them “temporary pay increases.” What is more enraging is that the bonus went to a convicted pedophile who was at the time working for Kinder’s Office (and his campaign). Ethics, schmethics. This guy gives the Republican party a bad name, that’s why you don’t see Ron Paul supporters doing anything to support Kinder. I was just going to skip past the Lt. Governor’s race on the ballot, but now I’m voting for Page.
