The Way They Were: Mo. GOP jabs Obama on Streisand event
Missouri Republicans followed their candidate’s lead in ribbing Barack Obama for a $28,500 a person fundraiser last night that attracted Hollywood luminaries such as Jodie Foster, Will Ferrell and Leonardo DiCaprio.
The Los Angeles Times reports that the event, held at a Beverly Hills mansion, included a live performance from legendary crooner Barbra Streisand, a vocal Democrat (No pun intended.)
In honor of the “Funny Girl” star’s performance, John McCain’s Missouri campaign said volunteers played Streisand tracks at the phone bank office last night.
“As Sen. Obama rubs elbows with Hollywood’s elite, Missouri families are worrying about high gas prices and how the issues on Wall Street will impact them,” said Gentry Collins, the Mccain campaign’s Midwest manager.
We’ll see if the Obama campaign responds with “Don’t Rain on My Parade.”
Yeah, the Republicans and McSame disapprove of all those entertainment types. Except, of course, for these McSame supporters: Chuck Norris, Bruce Willis, Robert Duvall, Jessica Simpson, Brittney Spears, Stephen Baldwin, Sylvester Stallone, Toby Keith and…YES…DADDY YANKEE the teenage heart-throb, Puerto Rican, reggaeton singer!!!!!!

Eschew, please provide the most recent Hollywood banquet for McCain. Please provide the amount of money that this banquet raised from the hollywood “elites” that you mentioned.
On August 25, 2008 McCain and his campaign assailed Obama’s celebrity status. That night, McCain was on THE TONIGHT SHOW!!!! McCain then went from Burbank to BEVERLY HILLS, where at least 1,000 people attended his campaign fundraiser at the BEVERLY HILLS HILTON. Jon Cryer, Robert Duvall, Angie Harmon, Craig T. Nelson and Jon Voight, and writer-producer-directors Lionel Chetwynd and David Zucker (”Airplane”) attended.
On May 28, 2008 he held a fundraiser in BEVERLY HILLS.
On October 26, 2007 his struggling campaign held a fundraiser in BEVERLY HILLS.
Yesterday, at a stop in Nevada, Palin signed autographs much longer than she spoke. Furiously signing while barely speaking a word and answering ZERO public policy questions from her admirers.
Republicans and the McSame camp are just jealous Obama gets MORE.

Eschew, fundraisers are fine and I’m glad you threw out some facts (although I haven’t checked your comments..I’ll believe them), but he also fundraises throughout the country. The point of this story is that a fundraiser/banquet was held by Hollywood elites with a $28,500 price tag per person. This is the usual Hollywood/liberal elite fundraiser that rock star Obama (and Clinton) are used to. Shouldn’t these elites, driving in their gas-guzzling limos, be using their money for charity causes? Your follow up, eschew, was to provide information on fundraisers in Los Angeles and Beverly Hills…but I did not see any information on banquets at $28,500 per person. No jealousy…he can have them and their snob, holier-than-thou attitudes.
No, Obama is an elitist, supported by elites. That’s not the change I want in the White House.

Dear Logic-means-nothing: Look, I perfectly understand your point. McSame can court all the Hollywood types he wants but it’s OK because they are mostly has-beens and D-Listers that are too cheap to pony up the money Obama’s more-successful supporters in LA LA land do. Obama’s supporters put their money where their mouth is. And isn’t that ironic since Obama is the one that wants to raise their taxes?
One more thing, I love this country where a young black man with a Harvard Law degree would elect to forego the instant riches of joining an “Elite” law firm to instead work for $20k helping churches and citizens empower themselves when their government and industry had left them behind. Then, only through his public service and political savvy rise to a station (obviously above that which suit Republicans) where he could even be considered “elite”.
Or perhaps you really mean “uppity”. That’s it.
