Treat stakes: Biden, Palin cookies compete on campus

And now for something on the lighter side of debate politics — or, at least, the sweeter.
Campus eating spots at Washington University are selling confections to match the contestants in Thursday’s vice-presidential debate: Blue donkey cookies with a frosted “B” for Democrat Joe Biden, and red elephant cookies with a “P” for Republican Sarah Palin.
The $1.25 treats will be sold until just before the election, with sales tracked to determine which candidate’s cookies raise the most dough. The winner will be announced Nov. 3.
The wafers are a good bellwether, the university reports. In 2004, George W. Bush bested rival John Kerry in the cookie contest before defeating him about the ballot box, too.
Raise the most dough? Give Jake a rimshot. (Uh, the musical kind.)
The Palin cookie looks bigger. I smell a right wing conspiracy. To put things in perspective, the Republican cookie should cost more…unless you’re a banker or a CEO….then they’re free.
Cookie schmookie. For one thing, I don’t understand the elephant as a symbol for republican. Every elephant I’ve ever met has a better memory than every republican I ever had the displeasure of talking to about public policy. And as for the donkey for democrat… well I suppose a republican can come back with something about jackasses as a perfect symbol for democrats.
If you don’t like the taste of the Blue Donkey cookies you can grind them up and smoke ‘em. Either way you’ll be getting a good dose of the liberal Kool-Aid.
