St. Louis viewers have once again showed their keen interest in politics, with nearly half of local households tuning in to watch last night’s presidential debate.

According to the Nielsen rating service, 48.1 percent of homes with televisions in the St. Louis area were tuned into the debate last night. The only two areas with a greater share of viewers were Washington and its neighbor to the north, Baltimore.

St. Louis has tuned in at a high rate for each of the four debates. In the first presidential face-off, St. Louis had the highest percentage of viewers watching. For the Oct. 2 vice-presidential, the only market that had a better viewer turnout was, once again, Baltimore.

This is good. I have my choice, I hope people are actually looking at both candidates and what they have done and will do for this country. They are as different as night and day.

Chicago and Phoenix, home cities for Obama and McCain. Neither city register a 40 rating. Don’t know if that’s because they’ll vote for their hometown guy and don’t need to watch, or if St. Louis is so dull we have nothing better to do on a Wednesday night. OR - maybe a lot of indepdents still on the fence???
