Blunt on Fox News: ACORN, Obama ‘not playing by the rules’

Gov. Matt Blunt appeared remotely this afternoon on Fox News Channel to repeat allegations against community organizing group ACORN. Blunt is among the officials in some states that claim ACORN has purposely been turning in bogus voter registrations.

ACORN defenders say the organization is honorable, often being the party that actually identifies the questionable registration forms. In some cases, the group is required to turn in forms, noting which ones might be bogus.

ACORN has worked this election cycle to register tens of thousands of voters in Missouri and the around the country as part of its regular campaign. Critics say it’s a sham and point to past convictions of ACORN workers paid per registration collected.

The story — including both sides — is something we’ve heard in previous election cycles.

In the TV interview, Blunt calls ACORN out and says they’re closely linked with the campaign of Sen. Barack Obama. He also says he believes the group should be investigated nationally, as it now is in some states.

RICO suit in the works?

Hope so… if not ACORN will be a huge part of the Obama Administration

For one brief moment, there was a pretense of objectivity and concern for keeping the voting process clean, but then Gov. Blunt and his interviewer went straight to their RNC provided talking points.

I stayed for a little more of the broadcast to hear this gem “When they (McCain & co.) can make it about Obama, then they can…When it is about other things, then Obama looks good…”

So in other words, when it is about the issues of the economy, jobs, the Iraq War and other items of concern to citizens, Senator McCain suffers in comparison, but as long as he stays negative and focuses on personality attacks, then he looks good. Did I get this right?

Is it just Blunt’s opinion that ACORN is linked with the Obama campaign? Well, Obama gave them $800,000. That’s a pretty big link if you ask me.

I don’t know whether ACORN is intentionally doing this or not. Maybe they are just a horribly sloppy organization. Maybe they just set up bad incentives or hire bad people. But in all the years of “motor voter” they are the only group to have such widespread problems, year after year. If this is the best we can do with 3rd party voter registration drives, perhaps Congress should modify Motor Voter to restrict registration to official government offices. I’ve never heard of Donald Duck registering to vote at the public library.

Critics say it’s a sham and point to past convictions of ACORN workers paid per registration collected.

Well, those critics would be WRONG (or lying).

ACORN Memo:
http://marcambinder.theatlantic.com/archives/2008/10/acorn_rallies_its_troops.php
Fact: Our canvassers are paid by the hour, not by the card, so there is NO incentive for them to falsify cards. ACORN has a zero-tolerance policy for deliberately falsifying registrations, and in the relatively rare cases where our internal quality controls have identified this happening we have fired the workers involved and turned them in to election officials and law-enforcement.

Fact: No charges have ever been brought against ACORN itself. Convictions against individual former ACORN workers have been accomplished with our full cooperation, using the evidence obtained through our quality control and verification processes.

Fact: Voter fraud by individuals is extremely rare, and incredibly difficult. There has never been a single proven case of anyone, anywhere, casting an illegal vote as a result of a phony voter registration.

> Our canvassers are paid by the hour, not by the card

Lisa12, that’s pretty much irrelevant. Fact is, your canvassers have an hourly quota. They can make it by hustling, or they can make it by faking. Obviously, some of them have chosen the latter.

> No charges have ever been brought against ACORN itself.

We both know that would be very difficult. In order to charge ACORN itself, the government would have to prove that ACORN directed its workers to engage in fraud. Even if you did that - and I have no way of knowing whether you do or not - it would be tough to prove. I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt, and accept that you just hire lazy people who would rather cheat than hustle. It still isn’t exactly a ringing endorsement of your organization.

> There has never been a single proven case of anyone, anywhere, casting
> an illegal vote as a result of a phony voter registration.

Again, this would be extremely difficult to prove. But we know this: Fraudulent voting must in every case be preceded by fraudulent registration. ACORN may or may not have produced fraudulent votes, but that you have produced a bumper crop of fraudulent registrations can’t be denied.

Getting back to the initial point, though … it seems to me that the only reasonable solution here is to eliminate 3rd party voter registration. People can register at any government office, which would be a short trip for almost anyone. The idea that partisan organizations should be hiring canvassers and beating the streets for voter registrations is idiotic. Go to the library. Go to the license bureau. Go to the welfare office. Or stay home and watch television, and don’t bother to show up on election day.

Hey I’m asking you windbag, how about you giving us the “pretty big link” you reference this often repeated lie by your sorry extreme right wing and the McCain operatives.
Only a credible link counts, none of your extreme right wing wacko crapola sites.

Whether there is an actual “proven” link or not, they are linked. ACORN registers black people, Obama is black, ergo…

Blunt, concerned with possible illegality and “”fairness’!” Hah, Ha, ha, ha,ha! Man oh, man! HAH,ha,ha,ha,ha!

Hey, Matt, where’re the e-mails, eh?

Hey, Matt, why’d you truly quit, eh? Somebody NOT got your back,eh?

Let’s see; Blunt sold out to gas, electric and phone utilities, sold out to doctors and businesses which kill and hurt innocent consumers, sold out to people that didn’t want to compete with MOHELA, sold out to Waddell Reed (several times!), sold out to anyone with the money to put up for whatever foundations and far right wing causes Blunt supported in Missouri!

And, NOW, Blunt wants to lecture anyone on fairness and illegality!

Say it ain’t so, Matt, there you go again! You betcha!

Funny how baby blunt doesn’t come up with a solution to let everyone vote but rather beat down the less fortunate again. What’s the R mantra… Keep ‘em dumb and don’t let them vote.

Good for Blunt. He stepped up to fight election fraud when he was secretary of state and he’s stepping up now. And this isn’t even close to being a partisan issue — when ACORN is registering MICKEY MOUSE, it’s crucial that the governor, attorney general and everyone else get to the bottom of it.

I hope Nixon joins Blunt in commending this appalling fraud.
