Gov. Matt Blunt appeared remotely this afternoon on Fox News Channel to repeat allegations against community organizing group ACORN. Blunt is among the officials in some states that claim ACORN has purposely been turning in bogus voter registrations.

ACORN defenders say the organization is honorable, often being the party that actually identifies the questionable registration forms. In some cases, the group is required to turn in forms, noting which ones might be bogus.

ACORN has worked this election cycle to register tens of thousands of voters in Missouri and the around the country as part of its regular campaign. Critics say it’s a sham and point to past convictions of ACORN workers paid per registration collected.

The story — including both sides — is something we’ve heard in previous election cycles.

In the TV interview, Blunt calls ACORN out and says they’re closely linked with the campaign of Sen. Barack Obama. He also says he believes the group should be investigated nationally, as it now is in some states.
