UPDATED: Cheney to stump here for Luetkemeyer

A spokesman for Vice President Dick Cheney confirmed this afternoon that he will be in town next Monday for an event at the St. Louis Club.

The occasion is a fundraiser for Republican Blaine Luetkemeyer, who’s running for the 9th District congressional seat soon to be vacated by U.S. Rep. Kenny Hulshof, R-Columbia.

Luetkemeyer’s Democratic rival is state Rep. Judy Baker, D-Columbia.

Cheney spokesman Megan Mitchell confirmed what we — thanks to the Southeast Missourian — reported earlier, that the vice president will then travel to Cape Girardeau to headline a fundraiser for Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder, a Republican seeking re-election. (Kinder’s Democratic opponent is state Rep. Sam Page of Creve Coeur.)

Mitchell said that Cheney has been traveling the country for congressional and statewide candidates this cycle, most recently in Florida and Alabama.

UPDATE: Luetkemeyer spokesman Paul Sloca said, “The Vice President is supporting Blaine’s campaign to fix a broken Democrat Congress that for two years did nothing as the majority party to combat rising energy prices and ignored warnings about the financial crisis now facing hard-working folks. And it’s disturbing to that these very same failed Democrats, along with their fraudulent friends at ACORN, are bankrolling Judy Baker’s ongoing campaign of lies and deceit.”

I used to love Dick Cheney and I still respect him for his service to our country, but I can still see past my affection for him and realize that he’s the political version of Plutonium 239. This smacks of desperation for Kinder and Luetkemeyer. Mark two up for the Democrats in those races if Kinder and Luetkemeyer aren’t smart enough to run away from Cheney’s unpopularity. I was already gonna vote for Page anyway because Kinder is such a traitor to conservative small government ideology but I thought Luetkemeyer was smarter than this. UGH!

I agree with my friend Paul Sloca but I don’t actually understand the point he’s trying to make.

This is a riot. Oil man Dick Cheney is headlining a fundraiser for bank executive Blaine Luetkemeyer at one of the swankiest rich-guy clubs in St. Louis and Luetkemeyer’s spokesman Paul Sloca is concerned about “rising energy prices” and “hard-working folks.” Got it.

Ah, I’ve been waiting since the 1884 presidential campaign to dust off the chant criticizing Republican presidential candidate James. G. Blaine:

“Blaine, Blaine, James G. Blaine, Continental Liar from the state of Maine!”

This rings true as well for Republican congressional candidate and Dick Cheney beneficiary Blaine Z. Luetkemeyer.

Another word that rhymes with Blaine is “PAIN” - and that’s what we will be feeling if he is elected to Congress. I hope he enjoys sneaking out of the 9th District to hang out with Dick Cheney.

Is he going to shoot anybody? I’d like to see that but, not be the shootee!

So, they’re bringing the only man in America more disliked and out of touch with reality than W in for a fundraiser, eh? I’m sure the Snarkman will sound like The Penguin, and make friends and influence people. If I ere Baker, I’d get tape of the evnt and use it on a commercial!

Ah Dick Cheney, Puppet Master extraordinaire! Now that Bush is a lame duck, he has to release his grip on Bush’s jaws and pull his arm out of the puppet’s back side. The mighty arm of Cheney will now be placed up the back side of Blaine Lootkemeyer where it will get a grasp of his jaws, and make his mouth move, spewing the mantras of the neo-cons, the deceit, and the false justifications of the failed policies of the last eight years. Good luck Blaine. Stock up on vaseline and butter.
