Democrat Jay Nixon is touting the support of another Republican deflecting from the party to back his run for governor.

Today, the Nixon campaign announced the endorsement of Chuck Wooten, a former GOP state representative from Springfield.

“I’m proud to strongly support Jay Nixon for Governor,” Wooten said in a statement issued by the Nixon campaign. “During his 16 years as attorney general, Jay has always been tough on crime, and he has always stood up for veterans.  I know he’d do the same as governor.”

Last month, Len Pagano, the Republican mayor of St. Peters, also endorsed Nixon.

Great snag, Jay. Wooten runs the veteran’s cemetary in Springfield, and does a weekend radio talk show. On his show, in 2006, he suggested bringing in motorcycle gangs to defend funerals against anti-gay picketers. Details here:

Nut case?

It’s funny how quick you are to throw somebody under the bus for having a difference of opinion.

So he’s a nut case for wanting the “motorcycle people,” not gangs, to come in and protect families from Fred Phelps’ hate. You’re right Nick, he’s a nutcase for supporting the Patriot Guard.

Kasoff piqued my curiosity. I looked into this. Fred Phelps really is a nut case!! Chuck Wooten should get a medal for working to stand up against Phelps’ bizarre & disrespectful antics. Wooten should also be commended for standing up for Nixon! Southern & rural Missourians should definitely know that Jay Nixon will support & back them when he is Governor.
