Luetkemeyer’s personal dollar infusion nears $1.5 million

Republican Blaine Luetkemeyer’s personal dollar commitment to his Congressional race has reached almost $1.5 million.

Luetkemeyer on Friday reported to the Federal Election Commission that he  kicked in an additional $340,000 of his own money into his campaign for the 9th District Congressional seat.

That boosts his personal total for the overall primary-general election cycle to $1.46 million. Some of that was listed as contributions to his campaign, some as loans.

Overall, Luetkemeyer’s campaign committee now has amassed nearly $2.1 million. That includes about $638,000 in donations from others.

Democratic opponent Judy Baker’s campaign has raised more than $1.3 million, with her only personal money a $10,000 loan.

However, independent expenditures by other pro-Baker committees (totaling at least $1.5 million) have exceeded independent expenditures by other pro-Luetkemeyer committees (more than $600,000.)

The bottom line in all this:  the 25-county district in northeast and central Missouri has been inundated with a rash of TV and radio commercials and mailings - many of them negative.

Total spending in the race for both the primary and general elections for the two candidates is likely to exceed $5.6 million.

No one spends 1.4 million dollars to get a job unless they expect they will cash in once in office. Just shows how greedy Blaine is.

This Republican is rooting for Baker.

Any way you cut it, it’s insane to dump $1,460,000 of your own money into a job that pays 1/10th of that. I guess if you have the personal fortune to do it and that’s how you want to spend it, that’s fine. I think I’d sit back and smell the roses and spend some of that million plus on ME.

Don’t let them discourage you Blaine. If it takes 1.5, 2, 3, WHATEVER million dollars to win this seat, you need to do it!

oldtimer - Everyone thinks Bill Gates is the anti-christ when they talk about Microsoft, and they think he is the greatest person in the world for establishing his foundation that will do great things in the world of medicine. How would they feel if he had spent that money that he created a foundation with on a run for office, instead? Ross Perot did, and his motives were questionable, Steve Forbes did, and I think he had good intentions. So the question is, why would a farm owner run on a platform decrying illegal immigration, when farms in general use illigal immigration during harvest? And what is the guy’s desire for the insurance industry, since he operates as an agent, and the state regulates insurance? You have to question all of the motives, if they are right and honorable, or if they are self serving. I think BL is honorable and just in his run. Because of that, I would rather see him spending his own money than that of a foreign contributor, as Sam Page has done. There’s not a lot of honor in keeping a foreign donor’s money. Well, that, and it is illegal. So if BL wants to spend his own, and he has it, great. Let him. Others do. Some build foundations, and some run for office. Either way, they are contributing what they have learned - or earned - in life back to the people they have the most interest in. For Bill Gates, that is the third world affected by malaria, and for BL, it is the 9th district. At least he’s spending his money here.

Oldtimer, please identify yourself when you run for office. I want to make sure that I encourage people to vote against you. It’s obvious you are looking to be bought where Luetkemeyer appears willing to put his own money into something he believes in and expects no monetary reward.

I know that concept is foreign to you and others like you but there are still people like Luetkemery who do have principals and are willing to fight and spend THEIR OWN money for those principals.

Blaine L.’s biggest problem is he is endorsed by Kenny Hulshof, the most do-nothing member of Congress the 9th District has ever had. It doesn’t look good if he cannot get other people to finance his campaign, esp. in terms of gathering votes.

I am one of the four people in the state who know about Kenny Who, and I have been actively campaigning against both him and Mr. Blaine. I’m not a big Judy Baker fan– but the only good thing I can say about Blaine is no one can spell his last name (his website says “blaineforcongress”,his experience for Congress is he was TOURISM director and there are a lot of tourist destinations in DC, and in a well publicized debate, was the only Republican to correctly identify a Founding Father. Hope he goes down in flames on Tuesday.

Of course Brother Lutekemeyer will not need to worry about fronting $1.5 Million. There will be plenty of “Joe the plumber” types falling over themselves to make contributions that will not only restore him to whole, but may even turn into a profit. As I jump into conspiracy theory mode. obviously a lot of Republicans will cash in from the outside of the government limitations. Now that the election is just about behind us. not many people are goingto pay attention to how Lutekemeyer will restore the money that he has spent to make it a fight against Mrs. Baker.
