Page chides Kinder on Tour of Missouri — “his bike race”
A new commercial from Sam Page, the Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor, criticizes Republican rival Peter Kinder for using tax dollars to support the Tour of Missouri. Interestingly enough, Kinder has scheduled a press conference today in St. Joseph to present the economic impact of the statewide cycling contest.
Page’s commercial also seems to imply that Kinder helped developer Paul McKee get a $100 million tax credit for his vast holdings around Old North St. Louis. While Kinder did back the highly-contentious proposal, it was later vetoed by Gov. Matt Blunt.
After a special-session, Blunt approved a scaled-down version of the “land assemblage” tax credit plan.

Kinder is a very, very strange man. I can’t believe he is actually the nominee of a major party for public office. He just freaks me out. I can’t imagine him being re-elected in an environment that gets worse for Republicans by the day.
The frightening thing is that he’ll probably run for governor against Jay in 2012 if he does somehow win.
Scary thought. Very scary.
This is a week response from Sam Page. The bike race is fantastic and from what I understand it has a huge economic impact on the state. The tax credit referenced, Sam Page voted for it, weird that he is now attacking Lt. Governor Kinder for it. Page will say anything to get elected.
How ridiculous that a junior state rep not capable of balancing a checkbook would accuse our Lt. Governor of using public funds unwisely. Page once again confirms that he is out of his league. Speaking of bike rides, Page really needs to get on his bike and ride out of state.
Never trust smooth talking guys with toupees who are fast and loose with the facts.
You have a future as a used car salesman Mr. Page.
That’s funny, when he was a Creve Coeur Alderman (just a few years ago), Page loved bikes. When people complained about bikes clogging up Ladue Road, the Council did zip. Now, he hates bikes. Can this man please make up his mind.
Seriously, folks. If you’re going to pile on Sam Page, at least do it in a substantive way.
Calling him a Junior Rep is insulting to so many others with the same amount of experience. He’s been in the legislature for 6 years. Clint Zweifel and Brad Lager, both candidates for state treasurer have also been in the legislature for 6 years. Are they only Junior officials also? Chris Koster has only been in Jeff City for 4 years, what about him?
And thinking its ok to ride bikes in Ladue is not the same as wasting taxpayer money on cute PR moves for the state when the people are losing their jobs and their homes, and their health care coverage.
And he doesn’t wear a toupee. Quite being juvenile.
The State spent under two million dollars on an event that generated 29 million dollars of in-state spending. In mind this is a better return on investment than anything on Wall Street. As a traditional democratic leaning and voting person- I was very impressed by the Lt. Governor and his staff in how they exectued the Tour of Missouri Professional Cycling Race. All of the major professional races in Europe receive government support because of their huge positive economic impact. I think that Sam Page should thank the Lt. Governor for bringing this event to our state- and focus on the real issues that actually confront our State. Judging by the immensity of the crowds in all of the small towns and big cities that the Tour of Missouri touches- anyone present can plainly see the benefits. Of course Sam Page wasn’t present….
Kinder is, indeed, one of the strangest people in MO politics. Creepy and weird and his idiotic attacks on Page are such thinly veiled smears it’s hard to even take them seriously. I don’t see how anyone can doubt Kinder’s whole bike race gig was solely to give hm something to crow about as though he has done something for MO by promoting this dumb event. Can’t wait to see Kinder get knocked off with the rest of the corrupt Republican crew.
Tour of Missouri is a great thing! Why not use corporate sponsorship!! Tax payer dollars should never be used for such expenditures. Corporate sponsorship is used by all smart event planners and should also be used by our politicians. Commercial developments of any sort should also never be given tax credits. Can you say corporate welfare! Kinder isn’t the brightest crayon in the box. Sam Page gets my vote for Lt. Governor!
I know Sam will be a terrific Lt. Gov., and I sincerely hope he’ll see how fantastic the Tour of Missouri is for the state & our citizens. I’ll continue to support Page because he is by far the most intelligent & trustworthy candidate. I’ll also make sure he knows my views on how important it will be to keep the Tour of Missouri going!
