Palin addresses supporters today outside a Bass Prop Shop in Springfield

The word from the Springfield News-Leader is that an overflow crowd of more than 20,000 packed the parking lot in front of the Bass Pro Shop for Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin.

As we get more details on her rally, we’ll add them here.

“Gun control guy?
o During a February 15, 2008 press conference, Obama stated, “I think there is an individual right to bear arms, but it’s subject to commonsense regulation.

* See link below outlining Obama’s previous gun control positions in Illinois Senate.

o What specifically in Obama’s platform make him a “gun control guy”?

* And you really believe anything on “O’s” platform/web page?? It’s been scrubbed so many times as to be inoperative. His Department of Peace proposal is long gone.

Be brave — Lott’s column originally posted at FoxNews web site.

John R. Lott, Jr, unlike Obama, actually was a visiting professor / fellow
at the University of Chicago

John Lott’s been shown to be a fraud. At one point, he was posing as “Mary Rosh” on Amazon to give his books positive reviews. He also believes that women getting the vote is problematic because it led to big government. He’s also been shown to have falsified his research data.

- Don’t know what his site says, about it - I don’t research by intentionally referencing biased sources.
- You might want to try it as, it is mind expanding experience, rather than mind contracting experience.

o If you don’t believe what he says, then that’s your opinion, nothing wrong with opinions cause that’s one of the things these PD boards are about.
- If you don’t believe then please include some sane rationale why not. My hunch is that most of us here would expect those with strong feelings about a subject to use their own words when articulating the rationale behind their strong feelings. It may not change many minds but a civil exchange of ideas has a long history of informing those on the other side and at least giving them some info that could lead to their appreciation of how somebody could hold the opposite view.

“What specifically in Obama’s platform make him a “gun control guy”?”

Lets see, he wanted to ban the manufacture, sale, or possession of handguns. He wanted to outlaw concealed carry. Wanted to prosecute people who used handguns for self defense in the home.

Well, the Post Disgrace certainly lacks reporting facts, so yes, they are all about opinions.

Oh yeah, his old stomping grounds, Chicago, has a new title, Murder Capitol of the US. How is that gun control thing working out there?

STL, you also mentioned wanting to have a discussion, so lets try that again.

How about you lay out your version or The Chosen One’s version of “common sense regulation.”

Wow, about 17,000 more that McCain; that has to be embarrassing for McCain. The problem for the GOP is that their unholy alliance has come to an end. Palin can fire up the angry extremists, but she is an embarrassment to anyone who thinks presidents should actually be intelligent and informed about world events (which, after Bush, is about 75% of the country). Now various groups are going to be at each others’ throats fighting for control of the GOP. The neocons and the theo-cons never really had that much in common; really the religious fundamentalists were just manipulated by people who wanted to use the government to support their corrupt business interests.

discussion?
me, wanting to have a discussion?
I searched and the only hit I got on this page for “discussion”, as of 10:55 am October 25th, 2008, was in your post at 10:55 am October 25th, 2008
.
o A couple of posters took a shot at Obama and gun control. I asked them to clarify, in their own words, what about his platform made them feel that way, nothing about a discussion, just trying to appreciate smart people’s opinions.
.
o You have no idea how I feel about gun control - none.
o I find it revealing that you presume my position on an issue because I have voted for Obama.
- I have never and will never be a single issue voter, rather I consider all the issues.
- I do not ever remember voting for a candidate who held the same position on all the issues as me.
- I roll it all up, chew on it and then do what you’re supposed to do - vote for the candidate that you think is best overall.
.
o Search all the pages in these PD forums and you won’t find me ever taking a position or most likely even mentioning gun control before today. Trouble is most likely you can’t search all the PD pages since I’ve joined in, so it can’t be proven absolutely positively 100% that I haven’t.
o If I had posted a position your searches would find it and prove me wrong, but since I have not then no amount of searching can prove that I’ve not posted about the subject. My suggestion for you to search and the resultant negative scenario is an example of “not being able to prove a negative” - the negative being that I’ve never posted about gun control.
o Since you wouldn’t find anything but you would most likely be limited to searching a finite amount of pages the fact that I’ve not posted a position on the subject cannot be proven 100%.
.
o Lessons Learned
- Do not presume someone’s position on an issue based on their candidate of choice
- No one can prove a negative. If it doesn’t exist, it can’t be proven that it doesn’t exist

Fish: “In its FEC filing, the [DNC] host committee said it incurred $53.67 million in operating expenses and spent $53.86 million.”
With that kind of money you could fill the entire Palin household’s closets 30 times over.

You’re just jealous because the RNC spent much more at $82 million, and they didn’t have super cool columns and couldn’t fill a stadium with over 75,000 enthusiastic supporters.

By the way, Cindy McCain spent $300,000 on one of the outfits she wore at the RNC Convention. Ten houses. Thirteen cars. Net worth over $100 million.
Tell me again, WHO is elitist???

~~~ Ouch. That’s gotta hurt.
Palin ~ 20,000
McCain ~ 15
http://www.columbiamissourian.com/stories/2008/10/20/mccain-land-columbia-regional-airport/
A crowd of about 15 people assembled outside the airport’s fence to see him descend from the plane.
Phillips, who also saw John F. Kennedy at the Joplin Airport in 1962, said she was upset at the small size of the crowd gathered to see McCain.
McCain campaign volunteer Jane Stuart agreed. In 2000, when then-Republican presidential nominee George W. Bush visited the airport there was a much larger crowd, Stuart said.
