Palin helps drop the puck at an Oct. 11 NHL game in Philadelphia

St. Louis area activists in both parties are telling Political Fix that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will head this way after Friday morning’s rally in Springfield.

Rumor has it that The GOP vice presidential nominee — who prides herself as a “hockey mom” — will stop by Friday night’s Blues hockey game, and drop the puck. No word on any other possible public events locally, if the above report is correct.

The campaign of the GOP presidential nominee, Sen. John McCain, said details would be available Thursday.

UPDATE: The St. Louis Blues has confirmed Wednesday night that Palin will be at Friday’s game, and will perform the first-dropped-puck honors.

I hope she gets booed out of the stadium. Detroit sucks.

I hope that the Blues organization is smart enough not to mix sports with politics. People attend sporting events to entertain themselves and support their teams. Leave politics out of it!

Woo hoo! I am buying tickets for the front row!!!

Yes!!

I’m going to be there, and I will boo until my throat is sore - looks like I better take care of my vocal chords for the next couple of days. Lot’s of tea with honey…

The headline on the homepage says Savvis Center, good work. It’s only been the Scottrade Center for about 3 years now.

— Brian

I hope the Blues do not allow this divisive figure near a hockey game.

I for one will not attend this game. I will just go out to dinner instead of the game. I am happy I did not purchase tickets yet.

I will sell my Blues Season tickets if the Blues organization is dumb enough to mix politics with my favorite hockey team.

4:15 pm October 22nd, 2008

Scott, they are playing the LA Kings Friday Night, Detroit is Tonight.

Brian, good call on the headline!

St Chuck Man, stay in the sweetest place ever friday night (sarcastic) becuase I’d rather have a Kings fan there then you.

Anyway, whats the big deal if she drop’s the puck? If that loser Obama dropped the puck, I wouldnt care, I wouldnt boo but wouldnt cheer either. She isnt making a speech, so some of you need to chill out. I’m a Hockey fan and I think it’s cool that she is all about Hockey. I think if Obama liked hockey, it would be cool too and would respect him more, even though I think he sucks.

Go Blues! and McCain/Palin!

Nice job. The headline is wrong. Scottrade pays millions to name the place and look what happens. Good job Post… you’re the best (only because the the only) paper in town.

I know who the Blues are playing Friday night. But does that mean Detroit does not suck? Detroit sucks, Palin sucks, Go Blues!

— Scott

No your right about Detroit sucking

— Steve
4:29 pm October 22nd, 2008

What is the big deal? If your hockey fandom rests on who drops the puck at the start of the game, I don’t think you bleed blue. It doesn’t matter whether it’s Palin, Obama, Bush or Geraldine Ferraro, you’ll survive.

4:31 pm October 22nd, 2008

couldn’t agree with you more steve…You’d be classless to boo her. What the hell has she done to (you the regular blues fan) to really hurt you? Nothing. If Obama were out there, I wouldn’t boo him, that’s because he hasn’t done anything that has affected me…yet. If you boo, you might as well go up to philly and join their loser fans. That way you can boo anyone for no reason…even santa claus (which I thought was funny considering how stupid it is to boo SC)

— kevin

Thank goodness for Mizzou’s Homecoming…I’m glad I won’t be there. Have Charles Glenn drop the puck!!!

— MLT

What a bad idea!! I have season tickets and will leave the game if she shows to drop the puck, I like my hockey without fly by night politics thank you.

McSame……Failin Palin. Stick to politics and get some experience doing that 1st…………..

— Chris J
4:41 pm October 22nd, 2008

Kevin,

I have to disagree. I do not think it is classless to boo. She is not attending the game as a fan, she is attending it to further her political agenda. The people there will not be booing Palin the person, they will be booing what her and her party stand for.

I just hope she is not wearing a Blues jersey, then I’ll be sick.

Detroit sucks.

— Scott
4:42 pm October 22nd, 2008

I agree, if you are actually a Blues fan, especially a season ticket holder, would you honestly boo a vice presidential candidate, or consider leaving the game? Just awful. If anything, applaud her for coming to a Blues game and not Detroit or Chicago. At least she gives St. Louis some attention.

— Dave
4:45 pm October 22nd, 2008

She is going to be booed for sure. Just like in Phili. You think that they would have learned from their mistake the first time. Good work Repubs

— jon
4:48 pm October 22nd, 2008

Nice job Steve. I like how you managed to insult every Blues fan that blogged while sneaking in what little support you have for the Blues. You will remain silent cause like ya boy’s campaign if your not attacking your standing there wondering why you don’t get it. GO BLUES!!

— MrCommon Sense
4:50 pm October 22nd, 2008

Dave wrote, “If anything, applaud her for coming to a Blues game and not Detroit or Chicago.” I’m pretty sure that she doesn’t choose her own travel plans, and I’m absolutely positive that the GOP has already abandoned Michigan and Illinois. If there is applause to be generated here, it should be in favor of Missouri’s reputation as a swing state.

Having said that… my wife will be at Friday’s game with me. She just might out-boo everyone else in the building.

i am still mad she spent 7500 supporting our local economy at plaza frontenac and now she has the nerve to go to a blues game - she just better not buy anything

5:37 pm October 22nd, 2008

It’s evident that the Blues organization is a business and not a socialistic welfare organization. Maybe, if Obama becomes president he can socialize sports. Do you think the the Blues organization knows Obama wants to dip into their pockets? No problem, the Blues can raise ticket costs even more. I will be at that game Friday, and I will cheer Gov. Palin on until my throat bleeds. That is before Obama makes my wallet bleed.

I’m OK with the “pitbull with lipstick” coming here. The election is all but decided anyway. She’s become a bit of a pop icon so I don’t mind some national attention with a 5-1-0 (hopefully) Blues team facing off against the Kings. I’m not a big fan of hers but she can’t be all bad if she likes hockey.

— blueswinthecup
5:55 pm October 22nd, 2008

I think we should have Palin cut a ribbon at Plaza Frontenac, not drop pucks at places where real Americans go!

Palin got almost $200,000.00 in fix ups to her clothes, jewelry, family, hair and glasses. Has she/they paid any estimated taxes for the last quarter on this income? I want to know!

Sarah Palin is not like us, she didn’t go to high school here!

— Tim Hogan

I wonder if she’ll borrow Todd Bertuzzi’s pink panties?

— Fishman
6:54 pm October 22nd, 2008

You know, the “I am going to boo Sarah Palin out the building” is really very childish. She is a VP candidate. Respect that. Would it be any different if it were Senator Obama? I do not agree with Obamas politics, but I would not boo the man. Whenever a liberal complains, it has that high pitched sound like someone letting the air out of a balloon.

— Joe
6:57 pm October 22nd, 2008

That’s because we liberals like to make noise when things get bad politically, Joe. If it’s broke, fix it. And voice your disapproval. We don’t stand like some idiot mountain man on the sidelines, and act as though nothing were wrong, “acting friendly” when pissed off in reality. If you’re pissed off, Boo!! If happy, cheer!!! Don’t fake the funk, ladies and gents!

— Martin
7:48 pm October 22nd, 2008

It’s not childish to boo at all when I pay good money to be entertained at a sporting event only to be subjected to a political statement. It doesn’t matter if she says anything at all, Missouri is still up for grabs and this is purely a political appearance - it was the same with the Flyers game in Pennsylvania (another battleground state.

If I wanted to see Palin in person, I would have attended her rally. This is exactly why there are laws that assure television and radio stations grant equal time for political ads, so that the wealthy owners can’t take advantage of their customers by pushing their own political agenda.

Would anyone mind if an Obama-Biden billboard was on the boards? What if Obama made a satellite appearance on the scoreboard? What if Obama throws out the first pitch at the World Series before a national audience, in Philly which is in a key battleground state? Would anyone have a problem with that?

In other words, where do you draw the line?

I am extremely disappointed in Checkett and the Blues for favoring a political candidate when i am there to see hockey and get away from politics. I don’t care if it’s Biden, Obama, McCain, Clinton - it’s not right.

Rest assured, I am seriously considering withdrawing any further support for my beloved Blues for their political pandering.

Take out how you fell in the voting booth… St.Louis is getting a lot of free pub the last couple weeks lets keep it going.

I’ll be at the game cheering for Palin. You Betcha! All you poor democrat teerds that are booing Palin can drink your $9 beers while I enjoy free beerce in the suite.

Yay, Yay, vote for Obama to give tax returns to people who don’t even pay them in the first place. Oh, by the way, Obama may lower your taxes his first year in office, but the next year you’ll be jobless. Enjoy that, while your company moves overseas, where coporate taxes are affordable.
Get used to: terrorist attacks, joblessness, socialism, and your kids going on field trips to watch their lesbian teachers get married. Meanwhile, you’ll have time to ponder what to do with all your “Change” signs. Here’s a thought, you can use them while you stand out by the highway panhandling.

Get over it people.
Love her or hate her, she’s probably the most well-known “hockey mom” in the country right now. I’m pretty sure if she wasn’t known as a “hockey mom”, she would not be at a Blues game, but that’s what she’s coming as. I’m sure she’s thinking of publicity, but If that’s all she wanted, she would be at the Rays/Phillies games throwing the first pitch. I applaud her for keeping in good spirits while in the Philadelphia arena. That takes one strong woman.
Go Blues!

Did you see the videos of Palin dropping the puck at the Flyers game? She was virtually booed out of the stadium. It must have been horribly embarrassing for her (AND her children). No wonder they’re (apparently) moving her out to the Blues’ parking lot; maybe the boos will be less evident there….

3 out of 4 high school drop outs I think are drinking the Kool-Aid BS that Obama is pushing.

All you Obama backers act like he is Jesus Christ. the way I look at it, there is only one person who has even come close to being nailed to a cross for me and for you and that is John McCain. 5.5 years as a POW.

Having said that, I’m thinking of buying tickets to the game Friday night for the sole purpose of booing Mrs. Palin.

Ugh. Say it isn’t so.

Blues . . . don’t you know about the Palin Effect? Ask the Flyers how well they did after her appearance there. Ask John McCain how well his campaign is doing with her on the ticket. She’s a negative!!!!

Will: “Without a doubt the most incompetent person we’ll see in our lifetimes.” Clearly, you’re doing much better than her, as is everyone posting here. I am assuming, of course, that we’ve been elected to high political office, made a decent sum of money, or been selected to run for national office.

Or maybe, Will, my assumption made an ass out of you and me.

Just when you thought the Blues were beginning to turn the corner, they are considering bring in Caribou Barbie!!?? What a joke. I suspect she will be booed out of the place but for the poor sacks who have a ticket, be prepared for the stupid frisking and metal detectors. The Governor of a population equal to Memphis, Tennessee dropping a puck while wearing a $5,000 dress and saying she’s, “a hocky mom!!” Couple the hiprocracy with the lies that continually spill from her mouth, disgust me even more. I really hope the Blues mail Friday’s game in. I’m a Blue’s fan but this is insulting.

To all those Republicans who are acting all high and mighty, saying that although you don’t like Obama, you wouldn’t boo him if he were dropping the puck: Have you watched McCain/Palin rallies?
Sure you wouldn’t boo him … because you’d be too busy whispering about how he’s a terrorist who’s going to ruin Amerkuh.

Boo her, cheer her, jeer her, fear her. It’s the American way. Unless the 1st Amendment changed, everyone has the right to raise their voice however they seem fit. If you think Palin is a heckuva candidate, cheer until your face is red. If you think she is bad for America, boo until you are hoarse. And then of course, vote on election day.

I love how people already are saying obama is the next pres when the election hasn’t happened yet. i know you are looking at all the bias polls out there for your decisions. The polls are all over the place. The AP Polls have it at a virtual tie while others have a 10 point difference. You still have to vote and go through the process.

Let’s see. Palin made rape victims pay for their own rape kits as mayor of Wasilla. (And Alaska has the highest percent of rapes per capita in the country.) Palin wants to take away all womens’ rights to an abortion, even in the case of rape, incest, and to protect the health of the mother.

If I was there, heck yeah I would boo.

Given the “seriousness” of this “issue”, it is time to bring back another tired old joke “I went to the fights the other night and a hockey game broke out”.

Could we get Don Rickles instead? He has used the phrase “hockey puck” more times than the NHL.

I had hopes that St. Louis fans would be better than those in Philly last weekend. This is a city which is known for applauding good play by opponents of the Cardinals but the comments by some of these fans may put that good sportsmanship to rest.
