Palin reported to give deposition here, before dropping puck
News accounts, including on CNN, report that Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin will be doing more than dropping the puck during her visit to St. Louis later today.
Various sources (including some partisan ones) say that the Alaska governor also will be deposed by lawyers in connection with the “Troopergate” controversy, which centers on allegations that she and her husband had tried to use her clout to get her ex-brother-in-law fired as an Alaska state trooper.
St. Louis sources say the deposition will taken in Palin’s hotel room here. (For security and news reasons, we are NOT disclosing where she is staying.)
The regional spokesman for the McCain-Palin campaign declined comment yesterday on the matter.
According to MSNBC’s First Read, Palin is to be deposed “by the independent investigator working for the Alaska personnel board. The interview will be under oath.”
Todd Palin is to be deposed separately.
Her personal attorney, Thomas Van Flein, was traveling on the campaign plane Thursday, according to news reports.
UPDATE — At the moment, Palin is in Springfield preparing for what is expected to be a huge rally of supporters. Here’s from the Associated Press:
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — Dozens of people bundle up to wait almost nine hours to get a good spot to see GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin at a campaign rally in Springfield.
The Alaska governor is scheduled to begin her speech at noon Friday at a rally in the parking lot of Bass Pro Outdoor World. Some spectators braved a stiff wind and chilly air to arrive by 3:30 a.m., long before gates opened at 9 a.m.
The event was initially scheduled for an arena at Missouri State University. But after all 4,000 tickets were snapped up within 90 minutes Wednesday, the Republican Party moved the event to Bass Pro’s massive parking area to accommodate a larger crowd.
Speeches in advance of Palin’s address are set to begin at 11 a.m.

Don- please learn the facts before stating your mis-information.The tix WERE originally handed out b/c of limited space at the MSU venue.Due to the fact that over 4000 were handed out in a little over an hour, they moved it to Bass Pro’s parking lot…no tickets were required…people showed up at 3:30am there JUST LIKE people showed up so early at the Arch last week.
As for the babies…I’m CERTAIN there were no children under 8 weeks old in front of the Arch last weekend…b/c I didn’t see any on the news.
I hope Palin Slams Obama to the boards. On all the issues, should be a slam dunk for her.
Don,
1. The rumor about someone saying “kill him” at a rally was proven to be false.
http://www.timesleader.com/news/breakingnews/Secret_Service_says_Kill_him_allegation_unfounded_.html
The Secret Service takes these things pretty seriously. If they didn’t, they’d be putting their own agents in danger.
2. The reason for tickets is that the rally was scheduled to be indoors. The venue can only hold so many people. (If Obama was really worried about threats, he wouldn’t be appearing at unticketed outdoor events.)
-Now that the Palin rally in Springfield is out-of-doors, tickets are not required.
3. As for money spent on the Palin family wardrobe: did you see that Obama spent $140K for the podium and Greek columns at the DNCC? Did you see that Obama is spending ,b>$2 MILLION for the election night ObamaFest?
I’m sure that all those that donated their hard-earned $10 or $20 donations are happy to see that Obama is throwing such an event in Chicago. (Another outdoor event, with supposed threats on his life? -Incredible)
Democrat: Obama’s grandma confirms Kenyan birth
‘This has been a real sham he’s pulled off for the last 20 months’

Philip J. Berg
The Pennsylvania Democrat who has sued Sen. Barack Obama demanding he prove his American citizenship – and therefore qualification to run for president – has confirmed he has a recording of a telephone call from the senator’s paternal grandmother confirming his birth in Kenya. The issue of Obama’s birthplace, which he states is Honolulu in 1961, has been raised enough times that his campaign website has posted an image purporting to be of his “Certification of Live Birth” from Hawaii. But Philip J. Berg, a former deputy attorney general for Pennsylvania, told the Michael Savage talk radio program tonight that the document is forged and that he has a tape recording he will soon release. “This has been a real sham he’s pulled off for the last 20 months,” Berg told Savage. “I’ll release it [the tape] in a day or two, affidavits from her talking to a certain person. I heard the tape. She was speaking [to someone] here in the United States.”
He said the telephone call was from Obama’s paternal grandmother affirming she “was in the delivery room in Kenya when he was born Aug. 4, 1961.” Berg said he’s pursuing the issue because of “the most important document in the United States,” the U.S. Constitution.” Nothing is more important than enforcing the Constitution,” he said. “The Constitution’s provisions are very small for qualifying for president. One, be over 35, and he is. Two, be in the country 14 years, and he has been. Three, be a natural-born citizen. He is not.” Obama campaign officials acknowledged the dispute by posting the image purporting to be a copy of his certification of live birth earlier this year. But they’ve declined to return WND requests for comment on the issues. WND reported earlier this week Berg’s claim that Obama has legally “admitted” the accusations included in his lawsuit, including that he was born in Mombosa, Kenya, by not responding to the allegations. Berg filed suit in U.S. District Court in August alleging Obama is not a natural-born citizen and is thus ineligible to serve as president of the United States. His lawsuit is demanding that the courts verify Obama’s original birth certificate. Berg has cited Rule 36 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, which states that unless the accused party provides written answer or objection to charges within 30 days, the accused legally admits the matter.
No hate here but for the life of me I can’t understand how people can defend Republicans in general after the last 8 yrs. They took a huge budget surplus and turned it into a recession approaching depression levels. The Republican President got us into a bottomless pit of a war, Vietnam redux from what I can see, for absolutely no demonstrable reason and they’ve absolutely thrown the Constitution under the bus. Plus, Republicans like Lindsay Graham and others want to throw anyone who disagrees with their self-righteous views on religion, abortion or guns under a bus….nice party you’ve got going there.
Steve: In order to be president of the United States you have to be a U.S. citizen at birth but you don’t have to be born in the U.S. If a United States citizen is on vacation in France and has a baby, the baby is still a U.S. citizen, even though it was born in France.
St Louis welcomes the Palin family back to St Louis. We appreciate your economic support of St Louis by having the Republican party spend over $7,500 on the “first dude” cloths last time here at Plaza Frontnac and staying at the most expensive hotel in St Louis. Unfortunalty, while the Republican party is spending hundreds of thousands of dollars in clothing it is not helping me find a job as a laid off white collar worker here in St Louis.
Another question for the Palin family. If you are for education don’t you think your children should be in school? In some areas it is against the law for them not to be in school. I also see your future son-in-law has dropped out of school. Is this your leadership on education? (by the way why did you go to so many colleges and what were your grades?)
I like the majority of America would like to know more about you.
I meant Scott, not Steve. My apologies.
Scott….come in from the cold brother….do you really think Obama could have gotten this far into the election if he weren’t legally eligible to run? Don’t you think he was properly vetted by both his own party and the opposition?
You and the other militia members need to wake up….the real question after Obama is elected is will you all continue chanting the same mantra that you have for the last 8 yrs…”even if you don’t respect the person you should respect the office”….it’s a new day dawning my friends….welcome to the 21st century.
For those questioning Obama and him being a citizen of America he has passed the Secret Service and FBI reviews under the Bush Administration.
MCCAIN IS THE CANDIDATE WHO WAS NOT BORN IN AMERICA.
McCain also is the candidate who does not wear a flag pin. Does this this make him un-American???
