Palin reported to give deposition here, before dropping puck
News accounts, including on CNN, report that Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin will be doing more than dropping the puck during her visit to St. Louis later today.
Various sources (including some partisan ones) say that the Alaska governor also will be deposed by lawyers in connection with the “Troopergate” controversy, which centers on allegations that she and her husband had tried to use her clout to get her ex-brother-in-law fired as an Alaska state trooper.
St. Louis sources say the deposition will taken in Palin’s hotel room here. (For security and news reasons, we are NOT disclosing where she is staying.)
The regional spokesman for the McCain-Palin campaign declined comment yesterday on the matter.
According to MSNBC’s First Read, Palin is to be deposed “by the independent investigator working for the Alaska personnel board. The interview will be under oath.”
Todd Palin is to be deposed separately.
Her personal attorney, Thomas Van Flein, was traveling on the campaign plane Thursday, according to news reports.
UPDATE — At the moment, Palin is in Springfield preparing for what is expected to be a huge rally of supporters. Here’s from the Associated Press:
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — Dozens of people bundle up to wait almost nine hours to get a good spot to see GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin at a campaign rally in Springfield.
The Alaska governor is scheduled to begin her speech at noon Friday at a rally in the parking lot of Bass Pro Outdoor World. Some spectators braved a stiff wind and chilly air to arrive by 3:30 a.m., long before gates opened at 9 a.m.
The event was initially scheduled for an arena at Missouri State University. But after all 4,000 tickets were snapped up within 90 minutes Wednesday, the Republican Party moved the event to Bass Pro’s massive parking area to accommodate a larger crowd.
Speeches in advance of Palin’s address are set to begin at 11 a.m.

Shame on Lisa12 for spreading such lies.
The latest myth touted on liberal blogs that’s bubbled its way into mainstream news headlines is the one where Sarah Palin ordered rape victims to pay for their own rape kits.
“Palin’s Town Used to Bill Victims for Rape Kits” was headline on a Thursday USA Today news story. Reporters Ken Dilanian and Matt Kelley used a 2000 quote from former Wasilla Police Chief to blame Palin for an outdated, now illegal policy she never supported.
“In the past, we’ve charged the cost of exams to victim’s insurance companies when possible,” former chief Charlie Fannon told the Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman in 2000 as then-Democratic Governor Tony Knowles was signing legislation to make local police branches cover the costs of the kits.
“I just don’t want to see any more burden on the taxpayer,” Fannon said at the time, which was reprinted in the USA Today.
Fannon went on to say that he believed the criminal should be held responsible for the costs, which run from $5,000-$14,000 per year for all assault cases. USA Today did not reprint those quotes from the interview, though. “The forensic exam is just one part of the equation,” Fannon said at the time “I’d like to see the courts make these people pay restitution for these things.”
Liberal blogs like HuffingtonPost, DailyKos and Salon.com are using this interview the Frontier conducted with Fannon to accuse Palin, who was mayor of Wasilla from 1996-2002, of supporting making rape victims pay for their rape kits– a charge vehemently denied by her aides.
“It would appear that Sarah Palin has a problem with Rape,” blogger Steven R wrote on the DailyKos. “In addition to not supporting the availability of Abortion for victims of Rape, Mayor Sarah Palin, Maverick, Fiscal Conservative, also had citizens of Wasilla pick up the bill for their own forensics tests.”
Palin spokeswoman Maria Cornella told USA Today that Palin, “does not believe, nor has ever believed, that rape victims should have to pay for an evidence-gathering test.”

The Truth,
Nice try.
New Evidence: Palin Had Direct Role In Charging Rape Victims For Exams
However, recently released budget documents show that Sarah Palin directly shifted the cost of the rape kits from the police department to the victims in her budget for fiscal year 2000. If what a former city council member told CNN is true, that “Palin would review each department’s budget line by line,” then she either knew about the funding shift and approved it or was negligent in her role as state executive.
The Republican party spending over $150,000 on cloths and other items for the Palin family is not poor judgement and outside of average America I don’t know what is. Until now the highest paid staff on the McCain campaign are Palin’s traveling makeup artist ($22,800 for 2 weeks of work) and also up there is her hair stylest ($10,000 for 2 weeks of work)
http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/10/24/pains-makeup-stylist-fetches-highest-salary-in-2-week-period/?ei=5070&emc=eta1
A person who spends this much on these items is out of touch with America. If you say otherwise, please explain how it is not.
Now I understand why the McCain campaign is loosing.
Are there any women out there that spend $150,000 on cloths a year, $22,800 in 2 weeks on makup, $10,000 on hair in 2 weeks???? If so, I am then gender bias or probaly more bias against you for being extreemly rich when you say you are one of the average families. My family can’t afford this much and would need to look to see if we have spent that much in our life time.
$140,000.00 for the podium and Greek columns at the DNCC That’s $140K that was just thrown away in order to make <b“The Chosen One” look good. -No remorse from the libs on that one. Is there?
Now “the Chosen One” has planned a 2 Million Dollar outdoor extavanganza dubbed ObamaFest. -Even Mayor Daley of Chicago has suggest a more reasonable venue.
Independent, so you think the government or someone should help you find a job? Hmm…methinks you’re a Democrat..not an Independent.
Women are held to a higher standard when it comes to how they look. We all know that. Remember the press dogging (no pun intended) Hillary about her hair, makeup, and clothes? Now, it sure seems to me that the amount is excessive, but the clothes will be donated so I don’t really have a problem with that. I have more of a problem with Obama buying votes with his $800,000 donation to ACORN, a group promotes Obama’s presidency. It has been reported, also, that Obama wears $1500-$2000 suits and McCain wears $500 shoes. While Michelle Obama may have worn a $125 dress from White House/Black Market on the View, any bets as to the value of her other clothes?
Palin’s kids education certainly should be a concern…for the Palins. As for her future son-in-law, any conversation they have had with him or his family should be off limits to the press. I think the Wall Street Journal link provided in this blog regarding the Obama/Ayers connection to education should be an eye-opener to all. Perhaps someone can shoot holes in that for me and tell me why it is false or a wrong assumption to make that Obama is a radical when it comes to education.
Radar, while I don’t believe the birth certificate issue has legs, I do wonder how Obama did get this far. Afterall, he accomplished nothing as a Senator but wrote two books and speaks well. I’m still waiting for someone to tell me what he has accomplished and will continue to wait. He promises a lot for everyone but the wealthy and corporations that employ people…but so did Castro.
Jane, Palin didn’t spend the money..her campaign did. Palin, in an interview yesterday with Hannity, said she typically got her clothes from a consignment shop..and named the shop. I haven’t seen the press come out with a story yet on whether the shop exists or whether the shop disagrees with it…and if not, I bet the story is true. At least she probably got the name correct..as opposed to Biden, who invited people to join him for lunch at a diner whose name changed 15 years ago. WHO is out of touch?
Sorry Repubs. the game is in the last minute and your out of time outs.
Sara is being deposed not by just the Dems.your guy’s asked for it also… when that happens that means they allready got you, they just need you to say something about it so it can be proven. to bad your boy’s in charge didn’t do their homework on her before she was chosen.
Lisa12, up until last year I believe, Missouri charge victims for their rape kits. Actually, I think it was the victims insurance company as it was in Alaska. There is a federal requirement in 2009 I believe that will require all states to pay for the kits..so it’s common practice still. Now, if the victims don’t have insurance, I’m not sure if they are still required to pay for them. I believe no victim should pay for their own kit but to blame Palin for this is silly.
When did the word liberal become a cuss word? You guys all belong with the idiot, Rush Limbough. I too say “go Sarah”, but not here, go back to where you came from
