Palin reported to give deposition here, before dropping puck

News accounts, including on CNN, report that Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin will be doing more than dropping the puck during her visit to St. Louis later today.

Various sources (including some partisan ones) say that the Alaska governor also will be deposed by lawyers in connection with the “Troopergate” controversy, which centers on allegations that she and her husband had tried to use her clout to get her ex-brother-in-law fired as an Alaska state trooper.

St. Louis sources say the deposition will taken in Palin’s hotel room here. (For security and news reasons, we are NOT disclosing where she is staying.)

The regional spokesman for the McCain-Palin campaign declined comment yesterday on the matter.

According to MSNBC’s First Read, Palin is to be deposed “by the independent investigator working for the Alaska personnel board. The interview will be under oath.”

Todd Palin is to be deposed separately.

Her personal attorney, Thomas Van Flein, was traveling on the campaign plane Thursday, according to news reports.

UPDATE — At the moment, Palin is in Springfield preparing for what is expected to be a huge rally of supporters. Here’s from the Associated Press:

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — Dozens of people bundle up to wait almost nine hours to get a good spot to see GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin at a campaign rally in Springfield.

The Alaska governor is scheduled to begin her speech at noon Friday at a rally in the parking lot of Bass Pro Outdoor World. Some spectators braved a stiff wind and chilly air to arrive by 3:30 a.m., long before gates opened at 9 a.m.

The event was initially scheduled for an arena at Missouri State University. But after all 4,000 tickets were snapped up within 90 minutes Wednesday, the Republican Party moved the event to Bass Pro’s massive parking area to accommodate a larger crowd.

Speeches in advance of Palin’s address are set to begin at 11 a.m.

I am a true democrat, but I would never wish harm on any candidate…no matter how much I agree or disagree with anything they say. Quite frankly it scares me to know that there are seemingly normal people out there wishing violent harm to anyone….man or woman…..republican or democrat. What a truly sick society…..

Palin is the best liar I have heard and I`m sure she`ll continue to do so.

Politicians make chumps of us all. As long as you buy into one of these political parties the way they behave and play politics with Americans you’re all being led to your Matrix style pod to live your lives in a wishful dream. Break out of this crap and have your own thoughts, and most importantly have and live your own life your way, and screw politicians and their propaganda system better known in this country as the media!

George Will was on one of those hip, funny, pop culture shows on comedy central this past summer where he said the most profound thing about politics I think I’ve ever heard. He called it our individual way of being frustrated and laying blame for all that’s wrong. Dems hate and trash Republicans, and vs. Yup, well, that fixes things now doesn’t it?

We sit around and bemoan the fact that Washington is broken, and we need a change that matters. Or how about Country First! As much as we hear of those slogans the change is always more self serving than selfless in service to our country.

Real change is not coming. Blame is childish. They own our lives. They just nearly self destructed this country by their vote buying schemes. Am I the only one that gets this? So it seems. Until my view becomes predominant we’re destined for this crap all our lives.

Both political parties be dammed!

All
I grow increasingly weary of the hostile nature taken on both sides of this argument. Let me state up front that I am an Independent (yes, the guy both sides are courting). I have voted for John Danforth and Thomas Eagleton (yes that makes me an old guy). I look for a candidate who can intelligently discuss issues (e.g. the Bush Doctrine) and tells me what is right about them, NOT what is wrong with the other guy. It should be obvious where I am going with this, yes I am voting Obama. It is a shame that the party of Lincoln and (Teddy) Roosevelt has prostituted itself to the ultra-Right the way it has in this election. Just my opinion. I will continue to look at all the candidates in the future but I am really getting skeptical about the entire process.

Funny that this makes headlines in the “unbiased media” while Obama takes a little trip to Hawaii to “visit his grandmother”, and no one in the press finds it interesting (or newsworthy for that matter) that Obama has been sued by lawyers representing the Democratic Party claiming his birth certificate has been doctored and that he is actually not a natural born citizen of the U.S.A. but rather was born in Kenya and had documents changed to say he was born in Honolulu, HI. This allegation has yet to be proven false, but still the news outlets keep it hush-hush. It would make sense that if Obama had to be deposed, or had any legal naturalization concerns he may need to travel to Hawaii to “straighten it out”. Come on reporters! Tell us what is REALLY going on!

lets all be civil here and recognize we all have our own opinions some more acceptable than others. having said that both sides have their fringe people out to make the other side look bad. sarah is not by any stretch of the imagination main stream, she uses and wears her religious beliefs on her sleeve to suit her personal gains. she has an unwed pregnate dghtr she hauled out to the media to exploit her pesonal agenda to be VP. her dhgtr no doubt is going thru a difficult time in her life and the stress of being scrutinized for her mthr’s ego is totally unacceptable what mther would do that to her teen age dhgtr.
lets talk about her own troopergate and how she has attempted to censor the public library in wassilla and how she took millions in fed tax money for the bridge to no where and then used it for other purposes. let’s remember she is supprting a current sitting president who thru his lies deciet and corruption has cost the lives of thousands of soldiers and destroyed the lives of millions of other people for his own greedy self. you can not over look this,as supporting this kind of person tells you alot about her as a person.
sarah is not an honest trust worthy decent person, her own personal story clearly shows her as insincere and unstable.
the blues have loss my respect for bringing her or any political person to a sports event and politicizing it, especially this woman.

So, to follow that logic, an individual born overseas to a US citizen (his mother) is not a US citizen? His mother was a US citizen, at worst he would hold dual citizenship.

CD-
I believe the issue is not whether he is a US citizen, but rather to be eligible for the US presidency you must be a Natural born U.S. citizen, in other words, born on U.S. soil, or on a U.S. military base abroad.

Dang, girl, your not a very nice lady. I think your a cutie but you still need to be voted out of office…possibly you will be impeached as governor of they find out your using public funds to fly yourself and the kids around because you can’t find a babysitter.

EastCostStLouisan
For persons born on or after November 14, 1986, a person is a U.S. citizen if all of the following are true:

1. One of the person’s parents was a U.S. citizen when the person in question was born;
2. The citizen parent lived at least 5 years in the United States before his or her child’s birth; and
3. At least 2 of these 5 years in the United States were after the citizen parent’s 14th birthday.

A person’s record of birth abroad, if registered with a U.S. consulate or embassy, is proof of his or her citizenship. Such a person may also apply for a passport or a Certificate of Citizenship to have a record of his or her citizenship. Such documentation is often useful to prove citizenship in lieu of the availability of an American birth certificate. (Acquisition of U.S. Citizenship By a Child Born Abroad, U.S. Department of State)

This answers the question I think, since his mother meets all 3 criteria.
