Palin threads: RNC spent $7,500 at Frontenac Saks
When Sarah Palin and John McCain visited O’Fallon, Mo. on their way to the Republican Convention, Time magazine reported that campaign staffers used the opportunity to visit posh Plaza Frontenac to purchase new clothes for “first dude” Todd Palin.
Looks like his sartorial adjustment was more than just a necktie.
The news site Politico reported yesterday that the Republican National Committee has spent more than $150,000 to “clothe and accessorize” Palin and her family since the Alaska governor was selected as McCain’s surprise running mate.
A look at RNC spending reports filed this month with the Federal Election Commission indicate that the committee spent a slice of that cash — $7575.02 — at the Saks Fifth Avenue in Frontenac. The expenditure is described only as “campaign accessories.”
The report also shows that Republicans spent:
- $75,062 at the Nieman-Marcus in Minneapolis
- $4,537 at the Macy’s in Minneapolis
- $789 at the Barney’s in New York
- $5,102 at the Bloomingdale’s in New York
- $41,850 at the Saks in New York

The horror! How can they in good conscience do this when Michelle Obama can’t even buy a nice pair of earrings with her measly economic stimulus check? And we all know The One himself dresses only in sack cloth and ashes.
Insensitive curs!
Why is this a story? Because it Saks and Neiman? Is she supposed to shop at Sears? Not that anything is wrong with Sears, but my experience is that the clothes I buy at a high end retailer are a lot more durable than those I buy at Sears, Penney’s or Macys.
Unfortunately as a female candidate people will be watching what she is wearing. For the men, if they change their tie it looks like a new outfit. It’s not as easy for the women (including candidate’s wives).
This is being played as “WOW” look what republicans are doing, but does anyone think The Democrats aren’t doing the same thing? Besides should Todd appear at a rally in his eskomo jacket or fishing duds?? Like someone pointed out is this a story because they shopped at Saks instrad of Wal-Mart? That’s fine for Joe Six-Pack but Six-Pack ain’t running for President…
I really think there are bigger problems that we need to focus on than how much money the candidates are spending on clothes. Who cares.
This is a non-story. Who cares? The RNC is free to spend their money any way they want. Obama wants to spend our TAX money and give it to those who drink gin all day.
Another example of Gov Palin abusing her power. First you have her using her position as Governor to fire her ex brother-in-law, Second, she used state money to transport her kids to function that they were not invited to, and Thirdly, now, she uses public money to buy a lavish wardrobe.
What will she do if elected? Use our tax dollars for elective surgery?
Sorry, I just don’t trust her.
suzijax,
palin’s supposed to be ‘one of us’…
a hard working, god fearin’, small town mother who knows how we feel…
let’s see…
troopergate…
husband who was a member of the alaskan separatist party…
charges her state per diem for staying in her own house…
building her new mansion at the same time she had a hockey rink built, using the same materials and contractors and no paperwork to show who paid for what (aka ted stephens)…
can’t name a supreme court case that affects her home state…
can’t name a periodical she regularly reads…
can’t follow the rules of debate…
charges her state for lodging for her kids and husband…
and on and on and on…
now she’s spending more than $150,000 on clothes.
that’s why our peoples vp candidate’s little side trip to plaza frontenac and not to to sears or k-mart is news…
This “story” is indicative of the type of journalism that is dooming the Post-Dispatch. Does (my candidate) Obama get his neckties from Marshall’s?
GOTTA EAT: OBAMA CAMP SPENDS $437,144 ON FOOD… $21,500,862 ON POLLING

sort of puts things in perspective
“What will she do if elected? Use our tax dollars for elective surgery?”
Nah. She’ll probably buy a tanning bed.
When you look up “Low information voter” in a political dictionary, you’ll see BigBob’s picture.
