Rove

The man who orchestrated George W. Bush’s ascension to the White House will be in St. Louis just before the nation chooses a new president.

After a heated debate, student leaders at Washington University this week approved spending $35,000 to bring master GOP strategist Karl Rove to campus on Nov. 3, according to the school paper.

In addition to a $30,000 speaking fee, the Student Life reports that $5,000 will go to security and other costs.

No details yet on time or location but, if previous speakers are any indication, attendance will likely be limited to students and faculty.

Glad to know karl will be wasting time on election eve rather then calling democratic voters and telling them to remember to vote on November 5th.

But as an alumni, I can say this is some of the worst spent money in the history of WashU, and they waste lots of money.

I am by no means a supporter of W, his programs, his views or his strategies, but I am curious to hear what Rove has to say, as he seems to be a very intelligent man and politically savvy man.

Huh. I always figured Satan would charge a lot more for a speaking engagement. Sounds like a few of those college Republicans threw in their souls to help sweeten the deal.

Richard:

Also an alumn (class ‘79) this is the first time in a long time I’ve seen student money used for a great speaker. But don’t believe me listen to Big D Democrat, he knows, what you (seemingly) don’t: David Axlerod stole his (Rove’s)strategy lock, stock and database.

It a shame you missed that in school

tsquare-

Student money is often used for a high profile speaker. I believe the student senate even has a budget for it. I know I am a more recent grauduate (2004) and we often appealed for financial help from student groups.

I won’t debate Rove’s ability to win elections. But when dubious means are used it is not something we should look up to or hope to learn from. We can do better. Sometimes we lose more if we decide we have to win at all costs. Guess you didn’t take to many classes dealing with morality or ethics…

Hey Bob,

I’m a Democrat, a very conservative one at that and I would love to attend and listen to Rove. I have been very active in running campaigns, for about 15 years. Rove is on the opposite side of the fight for me but what better way to learn than from the master of negatives. I plan on going and learning.

Notwithstanding the disappointing news in this post, Richard’s comments have restored my faith that that Wash U is still delivering an outstanding education to those that are receptive. You could say that Hitler was intelligent and politically savvy, but I wouldn’t support him speaking on any college campus if he were alive. You no longer have to be curious about what turd blossom has to say. A variety of his utterances - straight from his doughly little gourd - can be heard on Fox noise of late, and if you pull Palin’s hair, they come out of her lipstick hole.

Penelope,
That might have been the funniest post I’ve read yet. I don’t know where the phrase “lipstick hole” comes from, but it got a good laugh out of me. If it is a Penelope original, can I have your permission to use it too?
