Sen. Harry Kennedy resigning to take City Hall job
State Sen. Harry Kennedy — already on the way out because of term limits — is leaving the capitol a little early.
Kennedy is set to resign from office today, in order to take a job at City Hall working for Board of Aldermen President Lewis Reed.
The winner of a special election in 2001, Kennedy’s district represents parts of south St. Louis city and county. State House members Joan Barry and Jim Lembke are currently vying to replace him.
At City Hall, Kennedy replaces Reed aide Nia Ray, who has left the office. Kennedy will most likely be tapped to help with legislative affairs and community outreach.
His first day is Friday, just in time for the Board of Aldermen’s weekly meeting.

Harry, congratulations! look forward to seeing your good work assist St. Louis citizens with their issues.
Another member of the professional political class. These people should return to their farms. Government shouldn’t be a career.
Haaaarry, Haaarry, Haarry!
One of the nicest guys anywhere! Not just a boy scout, a saint.
JJK. you obviously never met him or the one quarter of the truly decent folks that just happen to work in government and decide not to run for higher office. Would you prefer he serve in the “moral” professions such as banker or actors? Please!
Good Luck Harry with your new position, South County Chamber would like to take this opportunity to say a big Thank You for all your support and friendship during your term. We look forward to a continued partnership.
Again, Congratulations and Good Luck,
All Your Friends at South County Chamber of Commerce
Rick,
Your agrument is as fake as your name. He may be a great guy, I don’t know and don’t care. My point is that people should not view government as a career. They ought to serve and go back to the real world. By the way, I hate actors, bankers, lawyers and overpaid baseball players who can’t pitch.
Jefferson City’s lose is St. Louis’s gain. You are a class act and will be missed!!! Good Luck!!!!
Congratulations, Senator! It’s great to hear that you are continuing your service to St. Louis–I know the people of St. Louis appreciate it.
jjk–you’re lucky to have someone with such integrity continue to serve the citizens of St. Louis. If public servants were to quit after their term in office, we wouldn’t have anyone with the experience and know-how making critical decisions that affect us all. Some of us appreciate statesmen like Harry Kennedy who sacrifice “returning to their farms” to benefit the citizens’ “real world.”
