St. Louis rabbi goes after Kinder for Nazi reference

Rabbi Susan Talve, founding rabbi of Central Reform Congregation in St. Louis, is calling on Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder to apologize for comments he made in an interview with the KY3 television station in Springfield.
Kinder, a Republican, was asked about a commercial from Democratic rival State Rep. Sam Page that criticizes the lieutenant governor for backing a $100 million tax credit proposal that was written with help from developer Paul McKee.
Kinder took issue with Page’s claim that the tax plan — which passed in a scaled-down version after initially being vetoed by the governor - was intended for one man.
“That’s an outright lie,” Kinder told KY3’s Dave Catanese. “That’s the Goebbels, Hitler big lie.”
Joseph Goebbels, a virulent anti-Semite, was Adolph Hitler’s propaganda chief.
“The comments made by Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder this week were hurtful and unacceptable,” Talve said in a statement distributed by the Page campaign. “It is disgraceful to compare Rep. Page’s commercial to the Nazi propaganda machine that led to the genocide of the Jewish people. “
Kinder, Talve said, “crossed a line that should never even be approached. “
“Kinder should rescind his statement,” Talve said, “and issue an apology for his heinous comparison.”
Nothing like calling your opponent a Nazi to help win you votes in a close election. Clearly the Kinder cannot defend his own record. How said. I used to think Kinder as an OK guy, but not any more.

Kinder is a scandal waiting to happen. The more I talk to fellow republicans who do not like him the more I want Sam Page to win. We need to build the party back with Family Values (get it?), this means no Kinder!

We should all object to genocide, which is precisely why Pro-Life candidate Lt. Governor Peter Kinder is on solid moral ground. However, his Pro-Abortion opponent should win an award for Most Outstanding Hypocrite in a General Election.

Kinder’s comments were disrespectful, callous, and completely out of line. They show a short fuse, and an inability to talk about real issues which average Missourians want to hear discussed. Sam Page is talking about health care, jobs, and education–things that need to be improved in our state. We need to elect people who will not resort to name calling and instead focus on solving our state’s problems. Sam Page is the best choice for lieutenant governor.
I was already voting for Page, but as a person with relatives who died in the Holocaust, I am offended that Peter Kinder would go there in slinging mud.
To liken someone to a Nazi used to be considered actionable slander on its face. I realize these are public figures. But Peter Kinder has just proven to me he is NOT a public LEADER. He is a demagogue.
For Kinder, an old Jewish curse: May all your teeth fall out … except for one, so you can have a throbbing toothache.
