Voter registration in Missouri rising at aid agencies

According to a report from the voting rights group Demos, voter registration numbers from public aid agencies have risen in recent months, following a lawsuit by Demos along with Project Vote and other left-leaning groups.

In April, the groups sued the Department of Social Services and local election boards in Kansas City and St. Louis, claiming they weren’t following federal law that required them to ask every client to register to vote or update registration.

A judge in July found DSS not in compliance with the federal law, the National Voter Registration Act.

Now, Demos is reporting that between August 16 and September 30, DSS offices register 26,400 voters, more than 17,000 voters per month. That compares with only 15,500 voters in 2005 and 2006 combined, or about 650 per month. By the math, that’s a more than 2,500 percent increase in the monthly average.

The group hailed the numbers as success at enforcing the portion of the NVRA intended to help poor citizens register and stay registered.

ACORN was one of the groups involved in the suit. Once again, ACORN goes to bat for the right to vote, and wins!

OUR PRECIOUS RIGHT TO VOTE
For me each time I vote is another chance to remember those that have sacrificed so much to secure that right. Weather you are Democrat, Republican, Independent, Libratarian or whatever, as an American you owe it to those who have given so much to exersise your right to vote. It is not enough to just show up and vote. In the memory of those that have fought and died for your right to vote in a free country, you need to take a few minutes out your busy lives and do a little research on who the best candidate is for you, your family and our country. On election day the lines will be long and many will have the urge to say the heck with it, but not you because you like me will remember those that have sacrificed so much for our right to vote.
