Washington Times columnist joins “Truth Squad” frenzy

Chalk it up to irony that the flap over Barack Obama’s local “Truth Squad” could probably use a truth squad of its own.

Last month, the Obama campaign tapped a pair of local prosecutors — Jennifer Joyce in St. Louis city, and Bob McCulloch in the county — to join a group of local elected officials to keep tabs on the opposition’s claims.

But when KMOV-TV (Channel 4) aired the story, anchorman Russell Kinsaul introduced the piece as Obama “asking Missouri law enforcement to target anyone who lies or runs a misleading TV ad during the presidential campaign.”

Both Joyce and McCulloch have adamantly denied that interpretation, saying they were not asked, and will not, prosecute individuals for political advertising.

As Jo Mannies recently reported, even KMOV’s news director says the story has been “misinterpreted.”

The station later posted a follow-up story on its website in which the reporter noted that John McCain has truth squads, too.

Even so, the story continues to reverberate as the presidential contest heads into the home stretch.

The latest to weigh-in is Michael Barone, a columnist for the Washington Times, which generally tilts towards the right. Barone cited the flap today in a column titled “The coming liberal thugocracy.”

“St. Louis County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch and St. Louis City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce warned citizens that they would bring criminal libel prosecutions against anyone who made statements against Mr. Obama that were ‘false,’” Barone said. “I had been under the impression that the Alien and Sedition Acts had gone out of existence in 1801-’02. Not so, apparently, in metropolitan St. Louis.”

Michael Barone and his comments are not surprising given the right-wing-conspiracy nuts’ penchant for throwing wild accusations and intentional misrepresentations into the Faux-News/Conservative”ThinkTank”/Limbaugh echo chamber where they bang around…artfully avoiding facts that may cling to them should they get too close.

It’s sad that the editorial pages have moved from varying degrees of forthrightness shaded by right/left bias to outright lies.

If anyone thinks that Michael Barone “right-wing-conspiracy nut” Then I suggest that not only don’t they know Michael Barone, but they must not know any “right-wing-conspiracy nuts”

Michael Barone is the preeminent expert on American elections, and has been part of politics for more years then I can count.

If Michael Barone says it’s bad… well it’s bad

Barone’s comments in this terrible piece of fiction are either the product of crude, amateur “journalism” research that were simply not checked, or an underhanded attempt to inflame partisan voters by spreading known false rumors. In either case, Barone is despicable.

Ah, jeez … NTSA from another Post staffer.

Have you folks ever said: The New York Times which generally tilts toward the LEFT ??

Let’s see … Syndicated columnist Michael Barone has an eleven-paragraph column — and you reference one paragraph to backfill on behalf of Team Obama.

Even without the one-paragraph reference to St. Louis, Barone’s article should send a shiver down your spines. Team Obama ran a coordinated attack on free speech — Milt Rosenberg’s WGN show was the target of ActionAlert! sent directly from Obama’s Chicago Headquarters.

Shouldn’t Free Speech have been the focus — and one candidates attempt to muzzle it? How difficult can it be for the Post-Dispatch to present some basic objectivity?

Ah, jeez … NTSA from another local Obama press agent operating from 900 N. Tucker Blvd.

Liberal thugocracy indeed. Democrats seek to impose ideological rule over every broadcaster, by bringing back the “fairness doctrine.” What will that mean? In Obama’s world, KMOX will have to give Alan Colmes 3 hours a day to whine, to balance out 3 hours of Rush Limbaugh, or just cancel Limbaugh. Of course, a Democratic FCC will rule that NPR’s programming is all unbiased, so no conservative balance will be required.

Lies, damned lies, and the far right! The truth is something you yappers just don’t know.

Y’all yappers just go home, call your doctors, get more meds and sleep off the next eight years of Obama-Biden!
