WashU administrator Steve Givens has seen and done it all around these debates. After all, this is the 3rd debate he’s had a major hand in planning.
But even he had an unexpected surprise today. The Daily Show’s John Oliver taped a small segment with Givens. It was during a lock-down of the debate hall. Oliver wanted to sneak into the hall.
When Givens told Oliver he could not go there, Oliver dug into his wallet and asked him if “Mr. Jackson” would change his mind. Givens asked him if he meant Mr. Washington, and pointed out that Oliver was holding up a $1 bill.
In any case, Givens didn’t budge. But he says that a Secret Service person watching the exchange was suspicious about what was going on until he was told that it was a comedic skit being taped for the Comedy Central show.
“It’ll probably get cut,” Givens said tonight while standing in spin alley.
But Oliver told him that if it does air, it will do so Monday night.
We’ll be watching, Steve. Now get some sleep.
