Former state Rep. Yaphett El-Amin, D-St. Louis, and the Missouri Ethics Commission, have agreed to a consent order which orders El-Amin to pay $10,000 for a variety of campaign finance violations.

The order was issued yesterday and indicates that El-Amin could face a fine of up to $100,000 — which would be large by Missouri Ethics Commission standards — if she fails to meet certain agreements.

In the consent order, El-Amin admits that she and two committees she controlled, El-Amin for Senate and Committee to Elect El-Amin, violated a variety of disclosure requirements in the law. Because Missouri Ethics Commission complaints are not public record, the consent order doesn’t define what the specific complaints were.

But the sections of law referred to in the order indicate she didn’t file timely reports, might have taken improper donations, and might have spent campaign money improperly.

The MEC orders a fine of $50,000 each in two cases, but says if El-Amin pays $5,000 in each case and refiles proper reports within 90 days, the rest of the fine will be forgiven. El-Amin also must stay free of other campaign violations for the next two years.

The former state rep has been working for Democrat Chris Koster, a candidate for attorney general.

Bingo. Nick. This part is also funny

Does anyone think that is possible when she is working for Koster?

Wouldn’t it be funny if Koster and El-Amin hit the road as a comedy team. Sort of like Martin and Lewis.

Missouri Ethics Commission complaints are not public record, the consent order doesn’t define what the specific complaints were.

Isn’t is strange that these complaints are NOT public - even when a heavy fine is imposed? Doesn’t exactly make you feel warm and fuzzy about the job the Ethics Commission is doing, does it?

I wish I could say that I was shocked, but El-Amin never felt the rules applied to her, just others.

Big shock that Koster would work with someone of such low moral character. Can you imagine the damage would do if he somehow sneaks into the Attorney General’s office. Although I am a Democrat, I will be voting for Mike Gibbons because I am scared of the consequences of putting Koster in a position of such great power.
