Thanks to a tip from P-D courts reporter Robert Patrick, Political Fix has confirmed that there actually were three congressional victims here of those spray-paint attacks during the night of Oct. 23.

The Town and Country home and driveway of U.S. Rep. Todd Akin, a Republican, also were hit.

(The others hit, and previously reported by the Post-Dispatch, were the cars and St. Louis driveway of U.S. Rep. Russ Carnahan and the Kirkwood home of U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill.)

Akin spokesman Steve Taylor said this afternoon that the congressman and his staff decided to say nothing publicly about the attack on his home at the time because “we were trying to help law enforcement do their job.”

Like McCaskill and Carnahan, Akin’s property was vandalized with spray-painted slogans against the $700 billion bailout that Congress approved in late September to help financial institutions.

But unlike McCaskill and Carnahan, Akin had voted against the bailout and was a vocal critic. Quipped Taylor, “It looks like they were equal-opportunity” vandals.

Most of the paint was sprayed on Akin’s driveway, with “minimal paint” on his home, Taylor said.

As in the other cases, the U.S. Capitol Police is investigating. Several members of Congress in Minnesota also were hit that same week.

A spokeswoman for the Capitol Police called this afternoon to inquire about our sources. She declined to say why the police had not mentioned Akin during a telephone interview on Oct. 27, when we had specifically asked at that time if there were other Missouri victims beyond McCaskill and Carnahan.

“We’re just trying to minimize the information out in the media,” the spokeswoman said.

Yeah, that’s the ticket, eh? Karl Rove did it to bump up late support for the GOP! And I’m dating Carmen Electra, yeah!

> Karl Rove did it to bump up late support for the GOP!

Tim Hogan’s an idiot! If they were seeking sympathy for the GOP, then Akin would have had a press conference. As you may recall, it was only Democrats who were in the news as victims - Akin kept his quiet.

Nick -
During the first round of such vandalism, both Democratic and Republican members of Congress were targeted. In Missouri, it was mainly the Democrats, however, in Minnesota it was both.

One would think that MOCs would have external cameras at least on their property and homes.

So wrong. Maybe the media should be less polarizing and more responsible. What cowards to sneak up in the middle of the night with a can of paint. What was accomplished? I would turn my own family in for something this dispicable.
