Baker, Harris, Donnelly join Jay Nixon’s transition team
Gov.-elect Jay Nixon is making sure some Missouri politicians who lost election efforts in November (and August) are keeping busy.
Today, Nixon announced his full transition staff and various transition deputy directors that will help him fill Cabinet positions and prepare to take over for Gov. Matt Blunt.
The big three names are all outgoing Democratic state representatives: Judy Baker of Columbia, who lost the 9th District congressional race to Blaine Luetkemeyer; and Margaret Donnelly and Jeff Harris, who lost the Democratic attorney general primary to Attorney general-elect Chris Koster.
Other deputy transition directors include Susan McCollum of St. Louis, who will lead recruitment efforts; Dr. Jon Hagler, Garry Kemp, Daniel Burkhardt and the previously announced Wayne Goode, a former state senator.

Harris is a great public servant. No one cost Donnelly the election. It’s ironic that the people who accuse him of whining are doing so by whining themselves.
Harris and Donnelly are great attributes and should be considered for top spots in the administration. Both were great legislators and both represent what is right with Missouri Politics.
Get over the AG race, the primary ended in August.
Given that Jeff Harris finished a distant third by garnering mostly anti-Koster votes, it is logical that this pipsqueak cost Margaret Donnelly the nomination. The Harris votes would have gone to Anybody But Koster. They should have gone to Margaret Donnelly and we would have a fine Democratic attorney general who isn’t a party newcomer. It would be most appropriate if Harris has to report to Donnelly. He should first apologize to her and to the Democratic Party for being the spoiler in the race.
That’s false logic. Plus, it’s pathetic. If Molly WIlliams had not entered the race, Donnelly may have won as well. If Chris Koster had not entered the race, Donnelly or Harris may have won. If Donnelly had not entered the race, then Harris might have won. If Ralph Nader had not entered the 2000 race, then Al Gore might have won. wah wah wah.
“If this, then that” logic only makes sense when the first condition is factually supported. You are entering into speculation land. Get over it and move forward.
Though I will never forget, if forgive, Ralph Nader helping to cost Gore election in 2000, by and large I think people have a right to run for office if they think they have a chance to win. I, personally, would not want to cost someone an election with my votes, and withdrew, more or less, from the mayoral primary in 1997 for that reason. That having been said, run-offs if no one gets 50%, or people voting for their choices in order, and reapportioning the losers votes until someone gets 50%, as some places in California do, would prevent such a result and without an additional election required, especially in a primary. I favor such a system.
Ok - can’t go any longer. Harris is without accomplishment in the legislature - except that he was partisan to a fault. He didn’t accomplish anything. He held members of his party back from accomplishing much because he himself didn’t want it to happen. Harris’ successor has been much more adept at defending his principles while helping his members accomplish things.
Donnelly on the other hand knew that she had to work with the majority. She knew how to pick her battles - for the most part - to get things done AND stand on her principles. Harris has never figured that out. His campaign demonstrates that clearly.
Harris is an idealogue bereft of any ability to work with others toward a common goal except disruption. In short - he is a partisan toad.
Jasonb, you are going to catch holy hell for that but from what I have observed, you are spot on!
JasonB-
Your obsession with Jeff Harris is borderline scary. Also, how does Jeff Harris’ successor factor into this? You are the one who claims that he won’t accomplish much. That’s really funny how you make completely inconsistent points in order to continually spew your biased hatred of one guy.
You also criticized Donnelly on the blogs throughout the whole election…so methinks you need to take a position and stick with it. Now that Harris is no longer a legislator, what are you going to do with your life? Are you going to follow Paul LeVota around and smash him every chance you get?
Anyone who consistently reads these blogs knows that you are full of hot air. You current status of being “Republican Toadie” is growing old.

Maybe you missed this part of my last post “Harris’ successor has been much more adept at defending his principles while helping his members accomplish things.” I know it’s difficult but concentrate.
I’m glad Koster won the primary. He was much more qualified than the other canidates. Under those conditions - I did criticize Donnelly.
Now - when comparing Donnelly and Harris - well there is no comparison. Donnelly is clearly smarter - more affective and a better choice than Harris for anything. More democrat voters agreed with me than you.
You have my permission not to read anything that might disagree with your opinion - no matter how wrong you may be.
Harris led House Dems to their largest pickup of seats in thirty years. Under Harris leadership House Dems picked up twice as many seats as they did under Paul LeVota.
That includes also the Speakerships of Gaw, Griffin and Kreider.
I am not sure how that isn’t success by any measure.
Is there a bigger loser than JasonB/Rod Jetton?
30 years is overblown - 20 maybe. In a year - 2006 - when democrats took control of both houses of Congress Harris could only manage a meager 5 seat pick-up? Hmmmm - seems like poor execution and a little bit of the odds favoring Harris than any brilliant strategy. At least Levota had a can claim he didn’t have much money to work with - including Nixon not sharing any significant amount of his resources - to do statistically as well as Harris.
Jetton seems to have faired well. Lost a race or two in the primary but won all in the general. And I’m doing extremely well thank you.
Nope - the biggest loser is Harris and his supporters. His whiny - shrill - attacks on Koster instead of running for the office cost him big time. But then again that was vintage Harris - whine - complain - but no substance.
I do appreciate the fact that his defenders are unable to produce his accomplishments - for good reasons - there ain’t none.
