Carnahan: 2.9 million voters set Missouri record
More Missouri voters participated in Tuesday’s election than any other in the state’s history, Secretary of State Robin Carnahan reports today.
There were 2.9 million ballots cast in this week’s election. The previous record — 2.7 million — was set four years ago, when the offices of president and governor were also on the ballot.
The turnout in Tuesday’s race, 69 percent, was the highest since 1992, according to Carnahan.
As we reported earlier, St. Charles County, which continues to be a Republican stronghold, had the highest turnout in the state, at 77 percent. The lowest turnout in the state — which was still over 50 percent — goes to Butler County on the Arkansas border.

I’m waiting for Secretary Carnahan to certify the election. Why on earth is it taking so long?
Still waiting on those provisional ballots to be vetted and counted, I’d guess.
Missouri could still go for Obama!
Kudos to the Republicans, they did a much better job of turnout in their parts of the state. The Democratic leadership needs to stop congratulating themselves and look at why turnout in highly democratic areas (such as St. Louis city) wasn’t higher. It probably costs Obama Missouri.
