Post-Dispatch editors load 22 boxes of e-mails from the Blunt administration into the elevator.

The long-awaited blizzard of e-mails from the administration of Gov. Matt Blunt finally came through this week, and the key documents show that fired deputy counsel Scott Eckersley did indeed offer advice about e-mail retention to Blunt administration officials, as he said he did.

The e-mails also show former chief of staff Ed Martin orchestrating special interest groups to rally against Blunt rival Attorney General Jay Nixon. The e-mails were examined over the past three days in an unusual collaboration between the three media organizations that sued to get the records: the Post-Dispatch, the Kansas City Star and the Associated Press.

Read the Post-Dispatch stories here and here, and the KC Star story here. I’ll post the AP version tomorrow once it’s available in an online link.

Right in front of the Post-Dispatch’s Scripture. Nice photographic staging.

Ed Martin is a liar and a coward.

Excellent work Tony. You deserve a Pulitzer!

Let’s hope Nixon seeks full reimbursement from taxpayers from Martin, Chrismer and Aubuchon since we paid their legal bills and they LIED to us the whole time about this fiasco.

Andy Blunt and Jared Craighead have to feel pretty damn stupid for pushing a complete loon like Ed Martin on Blunt only to watch him singlehandidly destroy his career.

Ed Martin’s cable show should immediately be cancelled unless he repays Missouri taxpayers every cent we’ve paid for his crooked legal defense. It shows what a wimp he is that he’s never had the guts to own up to his misdeeds directly.

This newspaper should never give him a vehicle to spout his lies and venom against innocent citizens like Scott Eckersly and Judge Breckenridge again.

“Ed Martin is a liar and a coward” — William

So’s Tony.

Look into what got him booted out of Springfield.

Unlike in government service, it’s perfectly acceptable to be caught lying to all the people all the time when you work in the newspaper business.

This lawsuit should finally indicate to the State of Missouri what a decrepit group of lowbrow liars Blunt, Ross & Co. were. They lied about everything else too, including other people that they tried to destroy for reporting wrongdoing. This is not the only occurence, but it is the only publicized one. Kudos to Scott Eckersley for having the courage to fight this group of slime. Blunt, Ross & Co. should have to reimburse the taxpayers for all the attorneys fees they got free off the taxpayers dime for their useless defense. In addition, all their violent henchmen promoted within the state agencies who participated in all the witchhunts, fabricated investigations, character assassinations, firings, etc. need to be identified and rightly held accountable for being accomplices to this psychologically twisted group of ruthless and wicked leaders. Good riddance sickos.

Glad to see that the little poli-fix gang of 4 at the PD finally got their jollies reading these stupid e-mails. Who cares? Now that this is over, perhaps the PD will actually start reporting some real news which includes people like Obama, Biden and his new staff picks.
Where is the report that Valerie Jarret, Obama’s latest pick, was in the slumlord business with Rezko?

Just another Chicago thug!

Can we get Tony Messenger’s emails sent/received at work for the past 4 years while he was at the Springfield paper and PD? I am sure the bloggers would get a Pulitzer price for what it would reveal…

The stories I have seen from the e-mails suggest Ed Martin is the most culpable in the Scott Eckersley saga. The stories suggest Governor Blunt was being led around by the nose by Martin on behalf of right-wing conservatives. Ironically, for all of his submission to the right-wing agenda, Governor Blunt didn’t quite kowtow enough, evidently, to keep the high council of nutjob leaders off his case when it came to matters such as judicial appointments. Ed Martin did Governor Blunt no favors during his tenure as Chief of Staff. In fact, Ed Martin did the Governor and the state a great deal of harm by apparently using state power and resources to pursue personal, narrow and ideological political agendas. Does anyone take Ed Martin seriously after these revelations?

Centrist,
I just get so tickled reading your “move along, nothing to see here” post. Yes, this is newsworthy. Sure, Blunt is out of office (most likely BECAUSE of this e-mail fiasco) but can’t we learn a lesson from what went wrong here.

We carn learn from Blunt’s mistakes. Or, we can just ignore it which sends the virtual message that its okay to do partisan work on state time and then fire, harass, and disparage those who advise otherwise. Yes, it would be okay as long as you don’t release the evidence until your are the lamest of ducks. Only in Centrist’s world would that be okay.
