Nixon, left, and Blunt

With his days in Jefferson City numbered, lame duck Gov. Matt Blunt continues to tout the success of one of his favorite pet projects.

In a statement today, Blunt announced that the “Missouri Accountability Portal” — a website that allows users to track state spending — has surpassed 14 million hits.

The website is a great tool for digging, or just passing time. Visitors can, for instance, learn that the state spent more than $3,400 at Kansas City Ice Cream for “food and dietary supplies” and more than $40,000 at Home Depot.

“We have opened up the state’s checkbook for all to see,” Blunt said in today’s statemnt, “so Missourians can track every dollar spent and hold their elected representatives accountable for their spending choices.”

You listening, Gov-elect Jay Nixon?

Seems like Nixon has a tough choice — maintain a favorite program of his predecessor and political rival, or scrap it and risk seeming petty.

Though, as NIxon’s team prepares to take over the executive branch, a website that shows where the money has been spent could prove useful.

Nixon - Accountability?

HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHa…

Funny that… This will go the same way as the Obama program web site… GONE!

Nixon better keep MAP running. Does he really want to start off his tenure by sending the message that he’s against accountability? Blunt did the right thing by opening up the state’s checkbook, and Nixon shouldn’t close it.
