Illinois House Honors Obama
Kevin McDermott
Post-Dispatch Springfield Bureau

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The Illinois House a little while ago passed a resolution congratulating former state lawmaker Barack Obama on his presidential election victory Nov. 4.

The three-page resolution, HR1620, was passed without dissent and with little discussion. It lauds him as “a living example of the American dream” who has “made an indelible mark on not only the state of Illinois but on the world.” A copy of the resolution will be sent to him.

Obama was never a House member. He served in the state Senate, across the hall, from 1997 until he graduated to the U.S. Senate in January 2005. The state Senate last week made a serious of floor speeches congratulating their former colleague.
