Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder could be looking at four lonely years in Jefferson City.

The Republican incumbent clinched his second term Tuesday, defeating Creve Couer Democrat Sam Page by a firm margin.

In doing so, Kinder was the only GOPer to win statewide office on Tuesday. Kenny Hulshof’s defeat in the governor’s office was apparent before the polls even closed, while Kirkwood’s Mike Gibbons lost his bid to become attorney general to fellow state senator Chris Koster.

Meanwhile, Florissant Democrat Clint Zweifel bested northwest Missouri Republican Brad Lager in the state treasurer’s race.

Congratulations to Peter. He is a hard worker who understands what it takes to win. I expect its Kinder vs Nixon in four years.

I voted a provisional ballot and I hope it is eventually counted. The eight year dictatorship is over. God Bless America!!!!!!!!!!! Looks like we had a free election this year thanks to all the people who got out and made sure they voted. My registration mysteriously was never processed by St. Charles County, but I waited in line and cast my provisional ballot, and filed a complaint with the Secretary of State.

Jake, 2.6% is NOT a “wide margin” against a down-ballot incumbent in Missouri.

David, for the Dem gov. to win by 19%, 2.6% for a Rep. Lt. Governor is a HUGE margin. He swung 21% of the vote just one ballot spot lower. Seems impressive considering all other statewide repubs were getting clobbered.

We should all be thankful Mike Gibbons is out of state politics.

Oh Garrison, stop that. If Mike Gibbons had switched to a democrat 6 months ago, you would have voted for him like you did Chris Koster.

Woodruff - since when does the campaign manager post comments on Political Fix (unless you’re Michael Carter’s brother)? Anyway, the 14,000 votes by which Kinder won in 2004 was a slim margin. This year he won by 74,000 and hit the numbers all over the state that a Republican needs to win.

Chalk up one more win for Barklage over Woodruff…

Wonder how the local Dems feel about Slay appearing on the flyers sent out by the GOP where he praised Kinder?

One of my best friends is a black gentleman who has done much to make North St. Louis a much better place. He is in hospice with cancer. I visited him yesterday and asked whether he had been able to vote. He said he made the effort to cast his vote. I said I guessed being able to vote for a black president was a great motivator. He said it was certainly, but he also wanted to vote for Peter Kinder. He said that for all Peter had done for the neighborhood, he didn’t want to let him down. He said people in his community sometimes criticize him for voting for Republicans. He said he tells them if they had met Peter they would understand.

Kinder was the only Republican I voted for . . . solely based on his effort on the Tour of Missouri bicycle race. Sam Page’s ad making fun of the Tour of Missouri sealed the deal for me in favor of Kinder. That ad really pissed me off.
