Just a week after Election Day, and passes to Barack Obama’s inauguration have already become the hottest ticket this side of Grant Park.

The tickets are free, but distributed only to the general public through senators and members of Congress. A spokesman for U.S. Rep. Russ Carnahan says the office has received “hundreds of callers already.”

Steven Engelhardt, an aide to U.S. Rep. Lacy Clay, says their office is no longer fielding requests after getting thousands of inquiries for tickets.

“Those names have been placed on a list, which has now closed,” Engelhardt said. “The very limited number of tickets will be awarded by lottery.”

The winners will be required to pick up the tickets in person on Jan. 19, the day before the inaugural ceremony on Capitol Hill.

“And, of course,” Engelhardt said, “they must present a photo ID.”

let’s see, that means that dems in missouri can only go to various statewide electeds and the missouri house for inauguration ceremony. the only reason they could go to the house is because they picked up dem seats instead of losing them like Jeff Smith did for dems in the senate.
